I have lived at Calais for almost ten years, and things have changed a little bit over the years, but not much. I have been fortunate and have had a great experience overall. People often come into new living situations with unrealistic expectations of what will happen. They also believe everyone should be perfect - all the time. No place in the world is 100% perfect or 100% safe anymore. However, the location and the price are worthwhile. I have always found the office staff to be understanding of special needs and the maintenance staff on top of requests. Whenever I have had a problem with A/C, it has been repaired immediately. Other maintenance requests have always been handled within 24 hours. In the rare occasion that there was a difficult neighbor, they listened to my concerns and addressed the situation. Many residents come and go, but I have been at Calais for longer than most, and I think I have a good handle on what life here is like. If you want to be in a suburban hillside setting that is very convenient to amenities, shopping, and surrounded by nice residential neighborhoods, then you should strongly consider Calais.
