My boyfriend and I were going to rent an apartment from Pleasant Ridge. We paid our deposit and pro-rated rent. We went in 2 days after our "move-in" date, the carpet was ripped up in pieces all over the place, the cabinets were not painted, prior to this we had had less than customer service. Lack of people in the office during posted times, lack of willingness to return phone calls, lack of fixing any of the issues above.
The final straw came when we decided to go back once more and take measurements for our furniture. Still the carpet was in total mess, stains, ripped, etc. The most shocking thing was BLACK MOLD. There was mold in the linen closet, master bathroom and the "wet bar". We brought this to the offices attention and they seemed to know about it (never was mentioned to us - ever) and was going to rip the sheetrock out and replace. We seriously had our doubts, so we told them we were NOT going to rent from them.
We have pictures that will make anyone's skin crawl. This place is absolutely gross!! Do not rent from them.

The mold problem is very serious. One girl showed me her apartment while she was moving out and there was mold all over the walls and ceiling. Then I talked with a guy who had the same problem and he had already moved out.
My apartment is always damp and humid. It is so gross. I have never experienced anything like it. I have to run the a/c all the time for it to feel normal. I come from a country where only the rich people have a/c. I don't care to use a/c too much, but these nasty apartments require continous use of a/c. The a/c also sucks, like most other reviews have cited.
This place needs the health department to visit and shut it down.

My upstairs bath and toilet will become black within 2 days of cleaning - I can't even clean that one up there hardly anymore. My kitchen is so outdated and the countertop stuff they put on there rubs right off. I call down there for various reasons and NO ONE ever answers the phone - so I walk down there and THERE THEY SIT! I have not had anyone come and service my a/c and put filters in unless I do it myself - the newer unit i can't do myself - even the maintenance guy said it was the dumbest way to do it - so I'm not getting good return because no one will service it - the A/C PEOPLE told me they have told the apt. they need to go and service and change filters frequently. I think this place is unsafe and when I can find a new place i will move - there are water problems, sewer problems and they do not care. I've never seen a staff that refuses to answer telephones. Also, if you moved in there when they had 24 hour security (which is the ONLY reason I moved in) they don't have it anymore - they stopped it. The security gate hasn't worked in a year. I am FURIOUS they stopped the security. I pay 950 dollars by myself and did so for good staff, good apt. and 24 hour security - None of which i have now. If they increase my rent before i can find something when my lease is up in 2 months, I'm going to call the Health Dept. and report them. Of course the health dept. will have to go in the office because if they call them they won't answer!

Oh come on. I've been looking for all of this time and I finally find an apartment that I like, and a few weeks before I move in I find this site. The sad thing is that every single review has the same thing in it. Is this a case by case bases, or can I pretty much expect the same thing when I move in? How many people did you know personally with the same issues? Does everything about these apartments suck? Damn this is disappointing; I was wondering why the lady was giving me such a good deal. If I go into the apartment and inspect it myself and look for mold, turn on the air, etc, should I be fine? I would greatly appreciate if someone could answer these questions. I mean these apartments have the high ceilings, fireplace, etc. Also if I move in I will only say on the top second floor.
