I'll be sad to leave

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
CONS:
- There were some issues with my apartment's furnishings when I first moved in. Doors either got stuck when you closed them, or difficult to keep closed. The air conditioning also started malfunctioning during that summer...and then it broke again next summer too.
- The walls are thin in the bathroom, the living room, and the kitchen. You'll know if someone's having a conversation in their kitchen, if someone is using the bathroom, and if someone is walking up the stairs in the breezeway. Sometimes you can even feel and hear people opening and closing their patio doors. It's not excessively loud, but it's noticeable nonetheless.
- There's only one narrow, steep road out of the complex, and you can only turn right onto Chenal Parkway when leaving (because of the central median). So you'll have to do a U-turn down the road if you want to go to the left instead. Also, if you're going eastbound down Chenal, you will have to go past the complex, and then do a U-turn to enter it (again, because of the median). You get used to it and start to plan it into your routine after a while, but it is annoying nonetheless. I hated wasting a few minutes doing this every morning, when I commuted to work.
- The worst thing about my apartment was having no ceiling light or ceiling fan in the bedroom. First, you'll have to get lamps if you want light in the bedroom. Then, when you're sleeping in there during the summer, you'll have to turn on a fan (which is noisy) or turn up the air conditioning (which is expensive). Otherwise you'll burn up.
- If you're afraid of spiders, don't get a room bordering the woods like I did. The spiders will take over your balcony and your breezeway if you don't get some heavy duty bug spray. Quite a few moths hang out around your lights too.
PROS:
- Management and maintenance are VERY responsive when you let them know about a problem. While I did initially have problems with my apartment's furnishings, they were fixed promptly when I let management know about it. I told them about my faulty air conditioning, and within one hour there was a maintenance guy there to fix it! Easily the best thing about this place!
- Despite the thin walls, the rooms are well insulated. You won't freeze in the winter or burn up in the summer if you keep your air conditioning on.
- While you can hear people close by, overall the residents are rather quiet. There were only a handful of times when I heard people blaring their car stereos out in the parking lots, for example. Then again, I was in a pretty out-of-the way part of the complex.
- Very close to many kinds of shopping and entertainment. You only have to go a little ways down the road to get to a Krogers grocery store, and there are many big box stores and restaurants within a few minutes' drive. The 16 screen Rave movie theater is pretty close too!
