Beware of the lazy, incompetent, prejudice manager

My husband and I NEVER even had the chance to move in. However, the way I see it everything happens for a reason. My husband and I rely on this site as a resource when finding a place to live and I also give feedback for others looking. I leave my name so it is not like I am some person trying to sabotage a rating for no good reason.
My husband and I were going to move in June 8th into a one bedroom apartment on the second floor. Amy, who was very nice, had approved us immediately. This was very courteous of her as I was flying back the next day. I felt good about the decision because it was one less worry as we were trying to finish moving from Texas.
A couple of weeks later I received a phone call from Sonja the manager. It seems the resident that is currently living in the apartment is building a house and it will not be ready in time. Sonja asked if we would mind moving into a one bedroom on the first floor directly below it. (This apartment was not even mentioned when we visited. Sonja indicated that it had been leased out but someone backed out of it...There might be a reason.). I expressed concern because I like living off the first floor for safety reasons plus I do not want things slithering and crawling into my apartment. Sonja assured me that they do not have a pest problem (try telling that to others that have left info on this site) and kept selling the fact it has a bigger patio. Obviously she was not listening. My priorities are not bigger patios, they are safety and keeping pests out. I informed her I would speak with my husband and have a decision for her by end of day. I called back later but had to be called back because Sonja was out on property.
She called me at 6:00 (closing time) and I told her that we would take the first floor. She then proceeds to tell me that we were never approved and that our application was subject to further approval because my husband has a "criminal record". I explained to her that the information that came up when Amy ran the background check was not my husband's and everything had been cleared by Amy herself. I asked her to just look at the Social Security numbers and birth dates listed and none of them matched my husband's. Unfortunately my husband has a very common name and there is a Jose Gonzalez out there that has quite a record. Sonja informed me that she would tend to it tomorrow and did not have time because it was closing time. I told her that she could even call Amy to confirm the information but she kept replying that it was closing time and she would attend to it tomorrow. Talk about poor customer service. She then kept insinuating that the erroneous information was my husband's. I further inquired as to why she would deposit our checks if we were not approved' Of course she had no answer. If my husband was a known felon, then that would be considered money laundering.
I called Pillar Communities, and they informed me that I would receive all but my $50 application fee. Speaking with other apartment complexes, since they were not able to provide us with what we signed up for we should receive it all back. At this point I am just glad to be done with Cantera and Pillar Communities. If this is the way matters are handled now, how would it be if something came up' We are taking our business to a complex that is competent and appreciative of their residents.

I've never had anything like this happen but I can say that she takes advantage of being the apartment Manager by using all the near by assigned parking spots of the vacant apartment for her personal use.

I had an issue with Sonja as well. I will not get into too much detail here, but she basically refused to return my phone calls regarding an important issue for about 2 weeks. I had to finally call the corporate office so they could urge her to call me back. When she called me back she blamed my phone, stating that she had called me several times and even left a message ONCE. I didnt receive this message nor did any of her calls come through on my caller ID. Interestingly, I was still receiving voicemails and my caller ID was still working with everyone else. Therefore, I'm positive she flat out lied to me so it didnt look like her customer service skills were lacking (even though they obviously are) and she was nearly impossible to work with.
