Worse luck than others

Years at this apartment: 2005-01-01 - 2006-01-01
When I first moved into Chandler Court there were amazing points I didn't think I could pass up. The size of the apartment was great(over 1100 feet for a two bedroom townhouse!) and the location next to the mall is great and fairly safe (at least compared to where I used to live). For the price, 720.00 a month, it was awesome. There were, however, some set backs I felt I could live with - the appliances are ancient. The fridge never gets really cold, the dishwasher has rust inside, and all and all they look completely ugly - but at least they match. The cupbords and countertops are fairly blah and old as well - nothing i would deem luxurious by any standard. The carpets are very low quality (though I've noticed this in many apartments lately), and although the leasing agent claimed they were new, still stained fairly quickly if even a drop of water is not cleaned up immediately. The kitchen and bathrooms have old vinyl flooring, and in 9 months has already started to split (i'm sure i'll be charged for that). When I was moving in they said the tub would be resurfaced (it looks pretty bad), but I guess I should have gotten it in writing, because when I moved in they played dumb - but I let that slide. I haven't had any real problems until the last few months. My dishwasher hasn't been working at all for the last three months, and calling and leaving a message on the maintenance line did nothing (they stopped answering the phone and it goes straight to a message now). After going to the office several times i finally got someone to come look at it - they said they would need to be replaced because it was so old - but that was two or three weeks ago and i've heard nothing since. Then I started seeing bugs. I've had a dog ever since I moved in, but recently (tis the season) she (and I) started tracking ticks inside the house after walking on the lawn outside (she has never been anywhere but the apartment complex and the vet - to get ticks taken off). Soon my apartment was crawling with them. On the walls, carpents, couches, mattress, tv stand, curtains, etc. How fun is it to pull back your sheets to go to sleep and see ticks all over them. I addressed this to the office, who immediately denied any ticks at their complex. The agreed to call orkin, which has come out three times so far - once a week. I don't know exactly what they're doing though, as i am still finding ticks all over the apartment. I've gotten several bites (i've had to go to the doctor because one started spreading all over my arm and swelling), and I cant live there anymore. I had to throw out my matress because ticks found a small hole on the side and got inside, as well as my couches (they got in from underneath). Now I go over twice a day to let my dog outside to go to the bathroom, pick the ticks off her paws that she picked up in the lawn before she goes back inside, and crate her so i can go to my girlfriend's apartment to sleep. I told the apartment how i cant live there any move, but there only response was
"but you can stay at your girlfriend's, right?" Good thing I still pay rent for the aparment only my dog can live in. I have since had it bombed and I paid to have all the carpets cleaned (a 200.00 service when the apt told me a little over 45.00), yet the ticks keep coming. In response to this, the office again denied the ticks coming from the lawn and said I needed to vacuum my carpet to take care of the ticks.... that left me sort of puzzled. Regardless to say, the ticks, cockroaches, poorly maintained appliances and bad flooring are causing me to leave. Oh, and they're rasing the rent to 900.00 when my lease is up in two months.
Bottom line: Apliances, bad. Flooring, really bad. Bugs, a lot (easy to kill depending on the type you get - so far i've had ants, roaches, moths, flys and ticks), management - they always smile, but don't seem to get things done. Price, not so good anymore. Location, great. Floor size, fairly good. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless they had to go... and i would tell them to not go near the grass!
