I wanted to share my experience with Gila Springs Apartments as a resident so that others can take informed decision.
(1) The apartments are quite old (around 20-25 years old) but this is never communicated out to you when you are trying to move into the apartment. You only realize this once you start having problems in the apartment.
(2) In the 9 months of my tenancy, I have faced following issues in my apartment,
A) 20% of the roof in the bathroom came off and was hanging precariously.
B) Months later there was a big leak in the bathroom roof. Whenever the tenant above us would use their flush, all the water would come down into our bathroom.
C) Our Kitchen sink has developed leaks 4 times in a period of 2 months.
D) The Lock on the Patio door had to be replaced [The first time, the maintenance guy told us that he would place an order, but he also mentioned that it really doesn't matter as the door would come off if somebody kicks it once. The lock was replaced when I didn't hear anything back for 2 months and I complained again]
E) The lock on the storage room door in the patio had to be replaced
F) The Blind in the living room had to be replaced.
(3) If your apartment is facing the Gila Spring Road then be prepared for extra dust and mess as there is construction going on just adjacent to these apartments. This is a bigger problem as the car parking is also facing the construction.
(4) I once approached management looking for a relocation to another apartment in the same community (but on the other side so that at least I will get some reprieve from the dust). I was told that it would be treated as a new move in with all the applicable charges.
(5) The most amusing reply from the management that I have received so far was during my lease renewal (I had to renew the lease as I am in this place for a couple of more months only). During lease renewals they actually increased my rent to 795$ citing that this is the market rate. However, the rate being offered to new move ins in 765$ with other move in specials. The management didn't deny this as well. So much to bring you in and then....well you are on your own..
(6) After writing so many negatives, I do have to mention a few positives. This place is very close to I-10 and 101 (around 2 miles from both the freeways). Another positive for me is that it is very close to my office (Intel) as well.
Hope you can take an informed decision after reading this review. Please don't hesitate to cross-check some of the facts with the management. It will be interesting to hear what they say when you move in instead of when you have already moved in.

When I moved into my apartment it appeared to be a great apartment I was so happy. Then a month later there where ants in my bathroom and a week after that mushrooms started growing from the bathroom walls and I lived on the second floor. Managed told me I could not move out and they did not offer me another unit. The maintence guys where always in and out of my apartment fixing that same probably over and over again. When I did move out the sent me a notice 4 months later stating I owe $2300.00 stating it's a buy out fee. They placed this on my credit report and sent it to a collection agency.
