Been here four years but revisit this site to check out the market at lease renewal time just to make sure I am making the best investment. This place is a good value for the money. A pro and con description is below if you want more detail.
Ocotillo Springs is a neighborhood rather than another apartment complex. Meaning, there is a good mix of ages, races, ethnicities, and people from various walks of life, which gives it a friendly and stable rather than transient feel like in some places. Like I said, it is been my home for several years but I know neighbors who have lived here longer. I have seen some of my friends' kids go from elementary to high school, which is to note that the elementary and middle schools are about a block away.
I travel out of town for work a lot so I have really grown to appreciate the security of the gated community and quick proximity to so many grocery stores, laundry and other services on my way home from the airport. When I am at home I also play music around the valley, often playing late and sleeping in so I appreciate the quietness that does not always come with apartments.
Friends are usually surprised to see the modern non-standard layout of my place. It is not boxy and boring like you would usually see in apartments. Also, not sure what you will be looking for but the team here is not snobby like at my previous Scottsdale location. Nor am I competing for my sanity (or parking space) like I was around the college. In other words, you will not have people looking down their noses at you because you choose to rent rather than buy an over inflated priced home in this economy. And, you will not have the ---- roach and partying problems like in some of those other places.
This community was managed by a different company a while back and was a little challenged. Their budget was definitely not going into maintenance at that time. The grass was brown in the winter, the ponds and gardens were left unattended. Fortunately, the Michaelson management company picked it up again. (I had a place in Cary, North Carolina back in 1997 that they managed. It was nice too.) The grounds are now well kempt year round. Brian, the maintenance super, Chris and Armando provide timely and courteous, first-call-it-is-fixed maintenance when the occasional toilet flapper or sink washer wears out. The clubhouse, business center, spas and fitness center are clean, well maintained- what someone would actually 'want' to use. Those are the pluses.
Just to keep it real, my wish list for this place includes: I would like to see more social activities here and would like the ability to use the clubhouse for events. I have winter visitors but since I use my second bedroom as an office, it would be nice to see weekly furnished rentals like at some places. The BBQs are charcoal not gas so it is a little less than convenient if you like to grill. Most importantly, there have been several staff changes over the years with some of them who just did not seem to 'like' care, 'like you know', 'like OMG'. With recent changes, the office staff is friendly, respectful and mature so I would hope to see some stability there too.
Bottom line- Take a tour around the place for your self. It will be worth your time.
