Noisy, expensive, and TERRIBLE internet

Let's start with the good:

The grounds and buildings look nice. There is a nice weight room and 3 pools (1 heated). Sandy in the office is fantastic. Some of the apartment floor plans are nice and, if you are willing to wait, there are 1st floor apartments with connected garages. Very handy. Some of the kitchen designs are very nice and the countertops are very nice faux black marble. My electricity bill is also very reasonable. I have a 2 bed 2 bath and so for my bill has never been over $95 a month. During Fall and Spring it averages $55-60. Also, the 202 has been completed, so freeway and shopping access is very convenient.

This is a gated complex, but don??t let that give you a false sense of security. Last year there was a string of break-ins and rapes here. The gates use security cards instead of remotes. Not the worst, but not the most convenient either.

Now for the bad:
First, this is one of the noisiest complexes I've ever lived in (and I've lived in some of the worst when it comes to noise). Many neighbors are downright rude (think stereos blasting in the parking lot in the middle of the night or early weekend mornings). There is supposedly a night courtesy officer in the complex, but I've called probably two dozen times and have never received a response or call back. Also, the walls are very thin. Now, I've lived in enough complexes to know that you will always be able to hear the neighbors above/next to you, but the walls here are so thin I can understand my neighbor's conversations... yes the walls are really that thin.

Second, I haven't seen any scorpions, but there are black widows everywhere. I've asked the complex to spray numerous times, but I've had to resort to buying my own sprayer and pesticides. Every week or so during black widow season I head outside in the middle of the night to spray the halls and staircases around my apartment.

Third, the Internet connection here is terrible. I was told that Qwest DSL was offered, but that is an outright lie. The complex has a T1, which is split among all the tenants. This is nothing but a greedy profit making scam by Pillar. My Internet connection goes down almost every Friday night and is usually out all weekend. Unlike Cox??s 24/7 customer service, Qwest promises to send a tech out next day, but that rarely happens. Connectivity is usually hit-or-miss during the week. I'm lucky if I can download large files at more than 20k/sec... in other words it's only slightly faster than dial-up and much less dependable, yet they have the gall to charge $40 a month. That??s more that it would cost to get true DSL!

The apartments themselves aren't that bad, but the incredibly thin wall, the horrific internet service, and the unhelpful staff (with the exception of Sandy) make these apartments way too overpriced. There are plenty of more reasonable complexes in the area, take a pass on Pillar check them out instead.
