good things and bad things

I lived in this community for a year and left after my 12 mo lease was up. The first and foremost reason for leaving was the rent was raised about $200. Mark Taylor claims that the rent hike is still "market value", but I was able to find a nicer community for far less than the rent that San Palacio is asking. What I did like in San Palacio was the maintenance service; however the initial prompt service that I receive in the beginning of my lease definitely went downhill as time went on. The office staff was very good and nice when I moved in, but again the last few months of my time there revealed less helpfulness in the office. The apts are nice but they are not top quality and I could always hear the people above us at all hours of the day and night. I am confined to a wheelchair and lived in one of San Palacio's modified apts. I don't recommend the community if you are in a wheelchair, my apt had very narrow doors and a frustrating kitchen (there were only 2 cabinets on the floor level, the rest where far over my head). On the other hand, additional modifications such as bars by the toilet and shower and a shower chair were added very promptly and I felt that it was above and beyond service in that area. I did have issues with people parking in my parking spot, even though signs posted say that your car will be towed if you are in a resident's assigned spot, the actual procedure for having a car moved out of your spot is after a wait of 24hrs and if your spot is taken during the hours that the office is closed, forget calling the after hours maintenance number, they will tell you to wait for business hours. All in all, it wasn't a terrible community but the final straw was the huge rent hike.

This is NOT true as nothing compares to San Palacio. In fact San Palacio should be charging more for rent then they actually do. If they charged any less, this community would not be resort style living as any Joe off the street could move in. I love it here it is upperclass!

Just got a notice to renew my lease for $890/month for the smallest 1BR they have. The last rent increase of over $165/month was equally as insulting. One wonders about the unrealistic greed of Mark Taylor and how they can keep expecting people to pay this ridiculous amount, when a brand-new complex called Chuparosas Apartments opened just down the street. Last time I checked, they have some great move-in specials at about $740/month for a 1BR. Check them out.

I am currently shopping for an apartment. San Palacio is by far one of the most expensive complexes that I have considered. The rents are well above the true "market value."
