Luxury Apartments or Roach Motel

I was to move in May 2004. Sierra Palms still has my deposit. So, I feel justified in reveiwing the complex: I needed a place and quickly since I started work the day after I arrived from out-of-state. I was concerned because I was moving sight unseen. I spoke on the phone about the facilities, aminities and price and terms. As part of this, I asked about crime and if they had bugs and was informed that the community was gated and that there was an exterminator by weekly if needed. That is an honest reply (but not an answer). Everything was GREAT. At signing (after they had my deposit), I was informed by a staff member that a jewel thief had shot and killed a police officer in one of the units. That MAY not have detered me from signing, but I inspected the unit. I found 4 dead roaches, 1 scorpion, and other assorted bugs in the unit and a dated note from the exterminator from a month earlier. During that time the unit had been unoccupied and no food in the unit. Roaches are attracted to food and there was none in the unit, therefore, nothing was attracting them and STILL that many roaches came in and were unable to leave before they died. I feel the staff is intentionally misleading and caution should be used when dealing with them. ?BTW- I understand that living in the desert, both scorpions and storm drain roaches are present in almost all areas of the Valley. However, I lived in AZ for 2.5 years. I saw plenty of roaches and such during that time. Also, during that time, I saw only 1 roach in my Townhouse or its Garage. Niether, was sprayed for pests?. I?m not ?creeped out? by them. I just don?t like living with them.
