Beware of the 8 Wonders of Flagstaff!

Before I get into details, I would like to preface my comments by stating that my ire is not directed at the managers or maintenance of these complexes. Those are good folks who are merely members of Flagstaff's growing proletariat-hardworking people whose hands are tied by corporate management.
This May, I graduate and can finally leave the squalor that has been my life for the past two years as I pursued a Masters degree at NAU. The real evil here is a company called Real Property Investment Services, Inc. (RPI). There is a fine line between profit (which I am all for), and unethical greed.
I have lived in 3 of the 8 wonders: University Square, Country Club Meadows, and now Woodland Village. If I am so unhappy with these complexes, you might wonder why I continued to rent from them. The answer lies in the mid-2000s, when a few of Flagstaff's largest rental properties became investment properties where people either purchased or rent-to-own. Simple supply and demand economics. This situation created a shortage of housing for students and allowed slum lords such as RPI to charge unethical prices for their units. Enough ranting! Let me get to specifics of my complaints against these serpents:
1) Way overpriced for the quality of units offered;
2) Construction is so shoddy, I can hear my neighbors bowel movements;
3) Infested with field mice;
4) Infested with mold and mildew;
5) Electrical outlets so old that power cords will not stay in;
6) So much paint on the doors and jams that you need to be jacked up on steroids to open;
7) Warped cabinets;
8) No water pressure might as well poor a cup of water over my head to shower;
9) Little to no storage no place to store mops, brooms, vacuums, etc.;
10) The free cable and/or Wi-Fi is not free. It is built into your rent and it is not negotiable if you want to seek alternative services;
11) Appliances such as stove are so old that the ceramic paint has come off;
Again, these units are ghettos and RPI charges well over a $1000 a month for many of their units (by time you pay most of your utilities it is closer to $1100). In some states where renters have a bit more rights, these units would be considered Section 8 housing and might even be condemned.
If you are coming to Flagstaff to go to NAU it is a good school and I have no doubt you will value your education obtained there. But heed my advice: Try to graduate as quickly as possible, because rent and the cost of living will drive you down the tubes. And lastly, BEWARE of the slumlords called RPI AKA the 8 Wonders of Flagstaff.

I totally agree! My friend lived there his senior year, and I used to go watch movies at his place. We could totally here the guy next door in his bathroom doing EVERYTHING! Seriously - taking a dump, shaving, coughing, talking to himself, whatever, you could hear it through the wall. The apartment was laid out weird, so the closets and stuff were on the outside wall. There was no place to move the furniture to avoid hearing some old guy next door totally ripping ass and hacking up a hair ball!
