good and bad

My husband and I have been a resident here for 3 yrs now and after reading thru all these recently posted reviews, I can say that I think it depends on which unit that you end up with that can be the cause of problems. We started out in a 2 bdrm and loved it. Only had problems with tiny ants the first week we moved in. A pro (not the guy who does it now) pest control guy came in and we never saw them ever again for the 1 1/2 yr that we were there. Yes there are spiders, especially on the patios, but for a girl who was raised in Alaska and lived for 8 yrs in a cabin w/out water and proper waste facilities, a few spiders are nothing as long as I have my own can of Raid. We now live in a 3 bdrm in another unit and have had no trouble there either. The washing machine, hot water heater and air conditioner have all had trouble at some time or another, but it was fixed the next day and we haven't had a problem since. My observation has been that since the place started filling up this spring, the general atmosphere of the community has changed and we are seeing more outside problems. Broken screens, trash left laying around, noisy parties, loitering teens, skateboarders on the sidewalks and in the parking lot etc. There is security but he only makes a pass a couple of times a night...easy enough to evade if you are planning trouble. The parking is nil now and with several cars in our family, we also rent a garage to make sure that we can park at least two of our cars within walking distance. The staff has been good and bad due to the management change and frequent turnover, but I give them credit for trying to generate resident morale by hosting resident activities now and again. It is anticipated that the rent will go up quite a bit when it is time to renew as the place is getting full. We are planning to move when our lease is up, as it is time for a surrounding change. Overall, Desert Mirage has been what I would expect of apartment living - like I said, big step up from a cabin. If I don't like it, I can always leave. Apartments are like crap shoots anyway. I will be more concerned about how long it takes to get my deposit back vs. the spiders and cockroaches!
