I've been at Gilbert Meadows (now The Springs at Gilbert Meadows) for almost 2 years, and although not perfect, I can honestly say that I've really enjoyed living here. Below I list my opinions in regard to the most important things I believe ought to be known about this apartment complex before you decide to move in.
Parking: Parking is adequate overall, and (thank God) there is not currently assigned parking (which eliminates a huge amount of headaches, you know what I mean if you've ever lived at a property where everyone has an assigned parking space), and the grounds have recently been re-paved. Plenty of spaces near outer-walls to accommodate guests also. My only complaint in regard to parking is that the speed-bumps are too high (neck-snappers), and that lighting is poor overall, especially around parking areas.
Noise: Noisy in the morning on the days of the week that the contracted grounds crew use their very noisy blowers for grounds clean-up, and sometimes noisy during the day from kids playing out in front, but I've never been disturbed at night by any noise, usually very quiet at night in fact.
Grounds: New management re-painted all units, re-paved grounds, and re-modeled the front office/club-house recently, and added a fountain in front. They also did a nice job of converting the old laundry room near the pool into an exercise room. They also covered many of the areas in front of apt. units with gravel. Overall grounds look good, except I kind of liked the grass around my apartment, which is now gravel except for a few clearings for a few plants and shrubs here and there.
Safety: Only major complaint is very poor lighting. It is VERY dark at night here, and I can imagine that single women would feel pretty unsafe walking anywhere around the complex at night, as it is equally dark everywhere. Just a handful of large light posts that definitely don't have bulbs that are bright enough, and any extra light comes from the porch lights of residents that may or may not choose to turn them on at night. (Most don't because electric is not included in the apt. rental price.)
Maintenance: Maintenance crew has been very good since I've moved in. Any issue I've had (sink stopped up, AC not working, noise from bathroom fan) at any given time, has been addressed immediately by maintenance crews. If I let the office know in the morning as to what I needed done, by the time I came home from work it was done every time.
Crime: I have seen the police here from time to time, but I honestly have never heard of any incidents of crime here. My car hasn't been messed with or my apt. broken into,(can't say the same about my experience while living at 2 other comparable apt. communities in Mesa and Tempe where I used to live) and people tend to keep to themselves overall. There are "hot spots" at the complex here where I usually see the police most when they're here, but I guess I'm lucky enough not to be in one.
Overall, I've found the new staff (since new management took over) to be courteous and professional, the maintenance crew seems on-point with keeping the grounds clean and with taking care of repairs when I've needed them to, its a good-looking community (definitely not ghetto, renovations really helped), and the only thing I think they really need to tighten up on is the lighting at night (grounds and in and around parking areas). For the price I think you get a good amount for what you pay for. You can't beat having your own washer and dryer (which have worked with no issues since I've moved in), the 1Br's are a good size for the price, and so long as maintenance keeps taking care of minor issues when I need them to, I'd definitely stay here for another 2 or 3 years (so long as rent increases don't become excessive)
Additionally, this complex is in a great part of town, everything I need is within a 2 mile radius (banks, restaurants, food-shopping, electric company, post office, fast-food, movie theater, shops) Only thing I leave town for is to get my hair cut.

Well someone is making up stories for the management ;) I wonder what kind of kickback they got? This person does not even live here anymore if they did they would know that Albertson's WAS the only grocery store here within 2 miles. And Alberstson's closed over a month ago. The closest grocery store is BASELINE & GILBERT. Also the maintenance man just unclogged some plumbing in my neighbors apartment this past weekend and instead of pouring his bucket of slop in the toilet he propmtly walked out front of our apartments entrances and emptied his bucket of slop in the gras right next to where two children were playing in front of three residents. Good Job Gilbert Meadows maintenance and Good Job Gilbert Meadows Management on making our apts even more ghetto with raw sewage in our play areas. And I thought Gilbert Meadows was kid friendly?

To the person above who responded to my review of Gilbert Meadows, I'm not making up any stories about my experience in living at Gilbert Meadows, so feel free to wink all you want ;), and I guarantee you I got no kickbacks of any kind just for writing an honest review. Yes I DO still live at Gilbert Meadows presently, and I do definitely remember when the Albertson's nearby surprisingly closed not too long ago, and I was sorry to see it go because it was the closest grocery store around. That being said, mapquest lists the Fry's food store on Baseline and Gilbert Rd.(where I shop now) to be 1.82 miles away from the complex, which is within the 2 mile radius like I said. I'm sorry to hear about what you witnessed related to the dumping of that waste by maintenance right onto the grass, if that's what happened then I agree with you that that's not acceptable and I'd definitely let somebody in the front office know about the incident ASAP, and I hope that it was an isolated incident. The reason why I wrote this review is that I honestly don't think this complex is ghetto like the majority of reviewers have made it out to be. I've lived in ghettos before, I know what constitutes a ghetto. I've lived in places where conditions were so bad I had to legally break my lease (the last apartment complex I lived in, in Mesa), where I had my car broken into and/or vandalized repeatedly, where a guy got murdered in the apt. right next door to me, where panhandlers were so bold they would knock on my front door and ask for handouts, where it was so loud all the time you couldn't even hear yourself think. The truth is I'm just being honest in saying that I've had an overall good experience in living here. If it hadn't been a good one after the first year I wouldn't have renewed my lease. That being said, management does definitely need to tighten up on a few things pertaining to the complex on the whole, but the truth is management has attended to the issues I've had since I moved in with what I felt was a sense of urgency and professionalism. It may seem out of place to you, that someone should give Gilbert Meadows a good review, but I'm just bein' honest as to what I've experienced in having lived here for just over a year and a half. This part of Gilbert is a pretty nice part of town, and a potential apt. renter could do a lot, LOT worse than this one, in my opinion.

Hi, I am the manager, and we do not ever solicit any resident or anybody else to leave us a good review. I thank the reader for their honesty, as well as the favorable comments. I am aware of the lighting issues and am working hard to reslove this as well as add more lighting in the future. I have also been told that Albertsons is scheduled to become a Walmart neighborhood market, so that will be nice for picking up a few bags of groceries. I did inquire about the "dumping of sludge" and that was not the case. The water that was dumped from a shop vac was clean water. It was filled with clean water in the residents apartment, and then spilled outside as we would not pour out our water into a residents tub or sink. thank you.
