Archstone Resident, 10 Years

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I have been an archstone resident for almost 10 years now and have lived on two different properties. Arrowhead is my current residence of about 3 years.
I saw some comments from other reviews saying this was a "slum". That is hardly the case. Arrowhead is an above average place to live for the Phoenix area.
My experience as a whole with Archstone is very good as compared to other apartment facilities. With archstone, all maitenance requests are generally taken care of within 24 hours, except for weekends whereby only emergency maintenance is done. They have even taken the time to replace burned out light bulbs in the bathroom mirrors, while they didn't have to. I have had some serious maintenance issues, but nothing emergency oriented. All maintenance issues were resolved within 72 hours of my reports, most being taken care of the very next day or same day.
Archstone Arrowhead has met all of the standards which they advertise at both properties I have lived at. Overall I would recommend the Arrowhead property, but as a resident you should be aware of a few issues.
Property Management
The property itself has had MANY property managers, none really seeming to stay more than 1 year. This has caused problems with management and customer service over the past few years. Our current manager is by far the best it seems, but has only been with this property for a short time.
Property Upkeep
The property is generally kept in good condition, except there is 1.5-2 months out of the year that they stop watering and let everything die so they can re-plant. Keeps the rest of the year looking nice, but the 1.5-2 months of dead everything is dreadful.
Property Crime
There is higher than average crime here for what I am used to at my prior archstone residence and other apartment communities. However this being Phoenix and the property being unsecured, I suppose it should be expected. While the property is gated, the fences are very short and anyone can simply hop over. In addition, there is no "point of entry security guard" and also the walkway gates are all unsecured. People kept breaking the locks on the walkway gates so they just finally replaced them with gates which don't have a lock. If you live on the first floor, don't put anything on your patio that you don't want to loose such as bikes or anything that can easily be lifted. There are some residents here that I have seen looking onto people balconies and have even had neighbors who have had many things stolen from their patios (even a pet rabbit) over the years. There is also alot of problems with cars getting broken into because people leave things in their cars that are attractive for people to steal. If you do move here, just use common sense. There are 300 units here so the population of residents is pretty high.
Disturbances
I have had one serious issue with a neighbor who had their brother staying with them. He would get really drunk and become very loud and even would start damaging the local property. After a couple of discussions with the "temporary property manager" they got him out of here. So overall, the problem was dealt with swiftly by the property.
Parking
Parking is good or bad depending on where you live on the property. On the far side where all the three bedrooms are, parking is problematic if you have more than 1 car. Often, the second car will have to park a building or two away.
For the Money
They have raised prices here at the property, and after the price raises, i would suggest looking at other properties before this one for the money. Overall though, its a nice place to live and I doubt you would have any problems as long as you used common sense with your belongings by not leaving any packages, visible electronics, bikes etc in your car or patio. mgFDbN4-dhkSMZ7zRmVH
