Wish it wasn't in Glendale

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I lived here for one year (Nov 05 - Nov 06), and I had a great experience. I had few problems with noise. Only sometimes did I hear the people/animal(s) upstairs walking heavily, but that's a problem that's unavoidable in any apartment. I thought the parking was sufficient for an apartment complex. Most of the spaces for non-residents is concentrated on the south side of the complex; there were always plenty of spaces available for non-residents. The fitness center and pool area were usually kept up. I probably went to the fitness center 30 times during my stay, and only a handful of times was anyone else using it. What I really liked about DV is the design of floorplan and the decision to stop at two floors. I lived in a one-bedroom, and I saw the two-bedroom before I signed up (there is only one floorplan for each). Both floorplans were very open and spacious. The kitchen area, storage/laundry room, bathroom, and patio were unusually large for a one-bedroom. Because there are only two floors, the exterior of the complex feels more open than a standard 3-floor complex.
While my overall experience was good, there were a few small negatives:
- I was charged a small premium on my apartment because it had a "courtyard view," but what I really had was a patio that overlooked the designated area for dogs to do their business. After a short time I realized that this should unit should have been discounted, if anything.
- Cable options are slightly limited, as the complex uses a cable company that doesn't allow residents to get Cox cable. You can get satellite, however, if your unit is facing the proper direction. You can also get DirecTV through the cable company (your own dish not required), but you pay the cable company any extra $5/month.
- For most of my time there (if not all), the office was only open on weekdays. I realize that office hours are normally determined by vacancy rates, but these hours were inconvenient as I almost always had to leave for work before they opened and arrived home after closing time.
I would have extended my stay, but I can't stand driving for 50 minutes each way to/from work. I believe rent rates have increased nominally since I signed my lease, but I still recommend DV to anyone who wants to live in/near Glendale/Peoria.
