I've had some good and bad experiences at Northern Lakes.
My roommate and I moved in on a Friday and her car was stolen from the parking lot that Sunday night. However, she did not have her club or the car alarm on which is a must in this area. Luckily, the police found her car.
We had a roach problem since day one. They were good about spraying weekly but I don't know what it is that guy sprays. It must be perfume because it doesn't do a damn thing! The Raid deep reach foggers are awesome, just make sure to follow the instructions.
I fogged the place two nights in a row 3 weeks ago and have not seen a single roach since!!! And I thought only napalm would get rid of them!
I have been lucky as far as neighbors go. Either they are very quiet or I just can't hear them. I can certainly hear the traffic on Northern Ave. though which isn't that big of a deal for me. It is annoying to hear cars going through the parking lot with blasting music and pounding bass.
We have had several maintenance issues in a year's time. The worst was when the a/c gave out in July. I called the "emergency maintenance number" because I consider it an emergency when your home reaches 100 degrees! I know they will not go on the roof during the night for obvious safety reasons and this is when I called them. It would have been nice to at least get a call back from someone. They didn't even call us back the next day. We called the office staff as soon as the office opened to report the problem. We were told that our particular a/c unit was one of the oldest on the property and they needed to locate a part for it. They would not allow us to stay in a vacant apt. and wouldn't compensate us if we had gone to a hotel. We immediately went to the tenant rights association which was very helpful...our a/c was fixed the next day.
Our dryer was squealing and not drying the clothes efficiently and the top was getting extremely hot. We told them we were concerned it might start a fire. They finally replaced it after 10 months of our complaining. It took them over a month to replace our refrigerator which was leaking all over the floor. They are often shutting the water off and sometimes they don't give you any notice. Fortunately I haven't been stuck with a head full of shampoo!
The grounds are clean for the most part but I think some people use the garbage cans by the pool to throw away dirty diapers because when I walk past them it smells of S**t!
There are definitely some creepy people living there. Watch out for the skinny black dude who constantly walks around the property and will ask you for a ride.
The office staff and maintenance are friendly and courteous. It just seems as if the property doesn't have enough money to work with in order to fix things in a timely manner. I am out of here when my lease is up. It's certainly not the worst place I've ever seen but I wouldn't recommend it either.

There's tons of roaches running around on the south part of the property. I even saw a flippin' huge dead one on my third floor walkway (not in my apartment, thank the gods!) the other day.
