Never really felt safe...

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I lived in this apartment for a full year and was eagerly counting the days to the end of my lease. I don't think there is a single thing other than the proximity to ASU West that I can count as a good thing. I literally do not know where to begin. From day one I knew that there would be problems with maintenance considering the pool was a lovely shade of green when I moved in. When they remodeled the laundry room they offered a deadline of two weeks, it took them 5-6. The gym was absolute trash. A few pieces of equipment and only one of them seemed to work. The treadmill was dead and stayed that way for 6 months. It still wasn't fixed/replaced by the time I left.
Aside from the poor maintenance noise was another huge problem. The walls are paper thin, also meaning poor insulation. I could hear my neighbors every day, the ones behind had a crying kid that kept me up and the ones to my left had music and idiot friends until 2am. I am sure that I was unintentionally annoying the poor guy below me just by walking around. The neighbors were not the only noise problem. Street racing could be heard late at night, gunshots in the distance, and my personal favorite the grounds keeping crew. Nothing says that an apartment cares about you like waking you up with leaf blowers going for hours on end. Considering fuel costs, time consumed, and noise levels, wouldn't it have been better to just do things by hand from the start' I had to deal with being kept up until 2am and then deal with being woken up at 6-7 am far too often.
Above all else the thing to watch for is your own safety and security. The onsite security guard is a joke because he's never around so therefore ineffective. While I never had my car broken into I did have my fuel siphoned, twice, and so did my neighbor. I didn't hear specifically of anyone else, but I did see gas caps removed from other cars in the lot. While one other nice thing about the apartment complex is the gas grills I had to shut them off at least a dozen times when people left them on. I can't say for certain if they just forgot they were on or if they intentionally left them running. Either way I don't like the idea of two gas grills running late into the night and sometimes with just the gas leaking out. My neighbors also spoke of being mugged at gunpoint and having their cars stolen or broken into.
If you're looking for a place that is near ASU West I recommend looking someplace else. I would recommend heading a little further west where it seems a little safer. There are far too many cons to the very few pros for this place to justify charging anything more than $600 for a two bedroom.
