I have lived at Stillwater for ten months, and in that time I have had the worst apartment living experience ever. The management is no longer concerned with renter satisfaction as soon as the lease agreement is signed. And, concerning the lease, there are loop clauses that leave the renter paying for most of the redecoration fees. For instance, it is not Stillwater's responsibility to provide light bulbs to a new apartment, but it is the responsibility of the renter to leave them after their lease is up. It is interesting to say the least.
Maintenance
During my stay here, there have been several maintenance requests we have had that have been performed, but in a poor way. My roommates and I were told to quit putting food in our freezer if we didn't want to have to defrost it. Upon the freezing-up of the freezer, the refrigerator below would, in turn, cease working, ruining our milk, eggs, and other perishable goods. It is one thing to over pack the freezer, but for it to need defrosting after a month of having nothing in it but a bag of chicken is unacceptable. To this day they have not fixed the refrigerator or replaced it. Also, anything that does get replaced, such as our locking bathroom doorknob, is replaced with a cheap item. Our bathroom lock was stripped out again (not functioning) after three months of use.
The Grounds
This is how I've come to know Stillwater: there is "still water" on all of the sidewalks. This is because the sprinkler system runs at all hours of the day, many times bursting sprinkler heads and shooting water 65 feet high and making rivers out of the walkways. It is slippery and dangerous. (See Pics) Also, rent goes up because of this "extra maintenance" too. Our rent has gone up by $20/month due to this.
Noise
Stillwater has beautiful grounds, but it is definitely different on the inside. This is the loudest neighborhood I have ever lived in. If it isn't traffic (cars with loud stereos), ambulances/police cars, or noisy ghetto people in the parking lot, it's your neighbors. Most of the people in this complex are from the lower end of the socio-economic spectrum, so they have no sense of social courtesies. For instance, it is nothing unusual to be woken up at 3 AM to your neighbor's loud music, go to work/school at 8 AM and the music is still on, and come home at 5 PM to it still on, and go to bed at 9 PM and it is still on and not just on it is VIBRATING your walls and the pictures thereon. And don't worry about reporting it or trying to talk to your neighbor about it. There is never a response either way.
Parking Lots
In my time living here, I have never had more car trouble. In the last few months of my stay at Stillwater, my car's gas has been sugared I don't know how many times. My roommates vehicles have been stolen twice. And, last Thursday I walked out to my car to find my tires flat they had been stabbed with a Phillip s head screwdriver. This is because the parking lot lights are out about two to three times a week (see pics) and security only works on weekends. Also, don't expect a parking space at Stillwater either. Parking is not assigned, and people bring two to three cars per family to the parking lot to sit for weeks-on-end, though they may only drive the one car. In the mean time you have to park a quarter mile from your apartment.
Laundry facilities
The laundry facilities at Stillwater are lax. There is only one laundry room, and it is on the extreme western side of the grounds. You have to walk a quarter mile if you live on the eastern side. In my ten-month stay here, the prices have gone up by 25c three times. Needless to say, I no longer do laundry here.
Lease agreement
My roommates and I have received lease violation notices twice since our stay here at Stillwater. They are ridiculous. We were told to remove our patio lights because they were "littering the grounds." They were strung neatly along the edge of the roof over the balcony, and one could not see them unless they were on the stairs within ten feet of our front door I know, I looked. But, we took them down anyway to avoid further conflict. I'd like to note, though, that giant beach umbrellas, huge Mexican flags, old newspapers, and plastic flowers can be found on the balconies of about 20 apartments here, but our patio lights were "littering the grounds."
Avoid Stillwater Apartments at all costs. It may look great on the outside, but it's like a gift-wrapped piece of excrement.

I semi-agree with this person's personal response. key word Personal. I have lived here almost 7 years and have noticed a serious decline in management and response times. What building did you live in? I live in and around building R.

Hey..I just moved to Tennessee from AZ and I lived there. He's right on every point he made. Honestly, right before I moved, I had to ask my neighbor, two doors down, to turn his music down...and later that night, it went right back up. And my next door neighbors blasted their music everyday...and when I spoke to them, they turned it down, but because the walls are so thin..you could still here it. I was miserable...it was finals week (I'm a student) and I had to go to the library to study every day cuz of that neighborhood. Don't move into stillwater unless you're ghetto..like the smell of weed on a daily basis and wanna hear tupac at 3AM! (and i normally like tupac...but not anymore)

I am the author of this article (ragincajun84@hotmail.com). To answer your question, sevenyrrenter, I lived in Building T in Apt 3149. I no longer reside at Stillwater. Before moving to Building T, I lived in Building R, Apt 1136. It was the same thing there, different apartment and building of course. I can honestly say that I will N E V E R rent corporate again, Stillwater cured me of that urge. Thank you, ameenah, for your comment. I hope you have a better experience in TN. And, just for the record, I'm from the South, and we know what we're doing when it comes to hospitality...unlike a lot of people here in AZ.

Just about everything you've said is true. I haven't had so much of a problem with noisy neighbors though. The light in my bedroom went out in December due to electrical problems. I've asked them to fix it THREE times, and it has not been fixed. I'm leaving in August (I would be leaving in July but I was just told that I have to give 60 days to vacate, even though my lease will be up). I honestly can say that I can't wait to leave!

GOOD LOOKING OUT FOR NEW COMERS!!!!! I really appreciate the person who wrote all of the problems this apartment complex has. I am moving to AZ from Michigan in about a month for teaching, and I am looking for places to live. Of course I have no idea what its like out there and the living situtions, but thank you very much for informing about this complex. Now I will not get caught up in that mess. I hope things work out for you soon and you get out fast! Thank you again!!!

APARTMENT RATINGS IS HAVING PROBLEMS POSTING MY OWN PERSONAL REVIEW SO HERE IT IS: I live at Stillwater Sept 1999 to Oct 2000--I happened to arrive earlier than my move-in time and the cleaning company who spoke NO ENGLISH made the mistake of letting me into the apartment, obviously there had been some terrible water leak, everything in the bathroom was BLACK...maybe the toilet exploded WHO KNOWS??? My ground-level apartment was damp and smelled moldy that whole year... (I was near the volleyball sand) can't remember what bldg or apartment number. The apartment above me was being used as a weight training gym and I got heavy weights dropped on my ceiling way too many times to count! Laundry room was always nasty. Pool had been shut down more than once because the pump wasn't working, I was told by Security that it was a hazard to swim in it!!! Whenever I was able to swim ppl would catcall from their balconies, no privacy...the things they said to and about me would be illegal to print here. Creepy community!! Hot tub was NEVER hot. Actually there was always COLD water in it. Eventually there was yellow tape around it to keep people from getting into it. I was told by Management they were going to put a new pump in it, after 10 months the yellow tape was still around the hot tub... Maintenance likes to drive their golf carts THROUGH the complex and YOU have to step off the sidewalk (advertised as a great walking/jogging trail) and stand in watery grass from the over used sprinklers to let them pass. Management was always crabby and unpolite, once the lease is signed they let you know your calls- comments- and -complaints are NOT welcome... Oh yeah, one night when I came home from work just as I walked into my apartment a TREE FELL OVER from the side of one building right onto the building I was living in. I had JUST escaped a tree falling on me! RUN SCREAMING FROM THIS COMPLEX!!! Take it from one who actually lived there for a year. ALso, I read the above comments. I just recently moved into a brand new complex in Kingsport, TN...WHAT SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY are you all talking about???? I got self-centered, self-righteous "Christians" who all file out to church three times per week running their mouths about me and backstabbing other neighbors, one of which is maintenance who can't seem to stop using his good old American Passive Aggression by coming into my apartment when I am gone and tampering with my personal things!!! Talk about corporate renting. I've definitely got my belly full of it too!! MoonFlower1965@yahoo.com Pat Tate
