Management is horrible

When we first moved into the complex it was clean and quiet and the management was wonderful, feeling that those attributes compensated for the price of a mediocre/older apartment. Three months into our lease Equity Residential took over the management of the property. Ever since it has gone down hill and fast. I made the mistake of drawing attention to ourselves by requesting that the tree by the walkway be trimmed as it had overgrown so much that it covered the sidewalk. It took them a month and constant requesting before it was finally taken care of. Ever since we have received constant threats and notices of warning of 5 day eviction notices for letting our small dogs out on the patio or for storing a portable grill on the patio and other ridiculous attacks. The office staff is not on the same page- we have been given wrong information causing us to pay more money. The first month following the take over they placed invoices on everyones door with a 'pay this amount' field highlighted- ours was lower than the lease contract amount- when we called the office to find out why that months rent was lower (by $115) we were simply told that we had a credit (they did not from what) and said to just pay the amount on the invoice. Three months later we receive a notice on the door saying that we have a running balance on the account and need to pay $115 plus fees within 3 days to bring our account current and into good standing'!'!'! Upon calling we were told that they made a mistake and had applied a payment from balance of a former tenant paid to our account- not once but TWICE. The office manager Kristen is extremely rude and talks over you when you call in reference to anything. When I requested the name & number of someone senior to her I had to leave several messages requesting a call back. Finally after two weeks I finally received a call only to be spoken to in a condensending manner and was told that any complaints filed would come back to her so and that she has received nothing but outstanding remarks for the staff she hired (go figure...) It is now time for rent again and they are now refusing to accept our payment unless it is payment in full with late charges on top of the $115 that they are trying to collect from their previous mistakes. Due to the constant harrassment we are giving 30 day notice to vacate but with the treatment we have had our perfect rental history will be ruined with their constant threats of eviction when we have done nothing wrong.
Overall the apartments themselves are not worth the money they are charging-the walls are extremely thin and appliances are old/inefficient. I will say that the last person that left a rating stated that they had a scorpion infestation. I have never seen a scorpion in/around the grounds. It truly is a shame that the mgmt has driven the complex into the ground there have been an excessive number of residents that have moved out. The apartment across from us has been vacant for over two months now as they ran that tenant off when they took over the complex. We will be bringing our issue to the corporate office to make sure that they are aware- hopefully something will be done before every resident is effected.

In response to your response I dont blame you for moving. Not only did they have a scorpion infestation (if you live by the lake) but they switched to a new management when I was there too and that was 2004-2006. They were bad then and they still continue to overcharge for the shabby apts. I am sorry that u had to go through that I was hoping that they would change it.
