I began my lease at Casa Carranza because I needed housing quickly and they were the only apartments in Mesa or Tempe with any availability in the next month. I originally had no problems. The price was fair and utilities were included- an amazing deal for anyone who's had to pay for air conditioning in an Arizona summer.The grounds are kept up nicely with a gardening crew coming every week. I had a view of the courtyard and the pool and parking was always available, though it was neither covered and rarely in the shade. The neighbors were nice, once coming over to introduce himself and welcome me. I really enjoyed my first few weeks. Then one night, the neighbors who were originally so nice ended up getting into a domestic dispute in the middle of the night, glass breaking, screaming and all. The cops had to come back several times that night. I can't count the number of times I have seen them since. They constantly pull people over into the parking lot or they're there interviewing a variety of shady characters that keep appearing. I would have given them 1 star for security, but - for what it's worth- they do have a security patrol that goes around at night. I consistently find shopping carts all over the premises. The walls are very thin, which was fine when I didn't have neighbors, but I am now cornered from the back and below by loud booming music at all hours played by people who refuse to turn it down. The office staff are nice enough to me but I have seen them talking meanly to some of the other tenants but, like I said, they are shady so they might have deserved it. The fridge the unit comes with is the tiniest one i have ever seen and the "freezer" is nothing more than a freezer burn creator. I defrosted it once or twice just to try to fit anything in it but gave up after realizing that anything that enters it will soon just be freezer burn. All off this would be tolerable if it weren't for 2 things. The first- the smell. No matter what air freshener/carpet freshener/plug-ins I bought, it ALWAYS ALWAYS smelled like a mixture of stale cigarettes and elderly people. But the worst thing. The ABSOLUTE WORST thing- the children. They run rampant around the courtyard at ALL HOURS of the day. The yell they scream they hit each other they cry they scream some more. ALL THE TIME. If you ever want sleep or rest or sanity- definitely avoid this place and it's pack of children. I'm moving out this month and it can't come fast enough. But it was available fast, it was cheapish, and it was near the freeway. If you can deal with trashy people, smelly apartments, and the noisiest children from hell you'll ever meet- Casa Carranza is the place for you.
