Just say no!

I have not rented an apartment in this complex but have spent quite a bit of time here while staying with a friend.

First, let me just echo what the other non-resident who posted before me said. People, you DO need to get familiar with renter's laws in Arizona!

There is a lot to know and don't let any office bully you into thinking you're stuck living in a craphole and paying full price for it! You'd be surprised what you can accomplish once they figure out you're not the average person who rolls over and takes whatever nonsense they push on you. Most people never do the research, and never put up a fight, which is why they continue to get away with allowing their tenants to live in substandard conditions.

As far as Del Coronado complex goes, I just wouldn't do it. NO WAY! Parking is horrendous, beer bottles everywhere, and plenty of shady characters prowling around. Plus dead birds, insect problems, and more crime than one should expect. Yes, it is a bad area, but part of the reason people are willing to pay so much to rent an apartment is BECAUSE they expect a certain amount of security for the price. Try a gate! Or a security patrol! Or cameras! Something! ANYTHING!

But the same goes for maintenance. Your rent INCLUDES additional costs because your landlord is expected by YOU and by THE STATE to make sure your residence and appliances are working properly. It's what you pay for.

I will say that the office staff was always polite and courteous, and we never had any problems with them. They seemed like very nice people and I do not think they are responsible for the problems here. I think they are just the faces that the renters see, and therefore are the people who are stuck shouldering the blame. In fact, I think they did an outstanding job since this was my friend's first renting experience and they did their best to be kind and make it a pleasant one.

So my point really is, be informed about your rights as a renter (no matter WHERE you do it!), but this place pretty much sucks. But if you're gonna go for it anyway, I hope you have a better experience than my friend and I did. And don't leave anything valuable in your car. Or maybe don't leave ANYTHING in your car. Actually... Just don't leave your car.

And as a side note to the post I mentioned earlier, landlords who rent out homes ARE ALSO expected to maintain their properties. Again, this is a service that the renter is paying for.
