Absolute Mediocrity

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
This is only my second apartment, and I tried to get a safe mix of good cost and a satisfactory level of living. The cost was pretty reasonable at Madera Point, and the staff is friendly. One of the annoying things is the noise level of the apartments (big two bedrooms) right next to the street on Dobson. Unfortunately their nicest apartments are also the noisiest.
We had a few initial problems with maintanence but since then everything has been running smoothly. Madera Point is owned by AIMCO, and that company has a policy that they will respond to a maintenance request within 24 hours. That doesn't mean they'll fix it within 24 hours, but still...
The apartments have a cute cottage-y feel from the street, but once inside or with a close inspection they reveal themselves to be moderately well kept older apartments. Nothing fancy, and kind of aged but the grounds are nice and green and clean.
There isn't too much noise except the huge problem with the street. All hours of the night I hear cars squealing and honking and whooshing by, and in the middle of it seems every night a train goes by at some point. Ick. But the population of Madera appears to be adults and the tenants aren't too noisy.
The neighborhood isn't very good, I do a lot of walking and it seems like daily I am accosted by the same neighborhood transients, all of whom are not friendly. Right next to the complex is a seedy Circle K gas station and on the other side is a retirement trailer park. I locked my bike up and the next day I came out and found one of the wheels gone as well as the bicycle seat...
As for security- at night it could be much better lit, and though the complex is gated it seems that the gates are always breaking down and getting vandalized somehow.
Life at Madera Point is fairly mediocre. It could be a lot better- it could also be a lot worse. I don't have any real bad experiences- but I don't have any real good ones either. I probably won't re-sign my lease but I'm glad to have found a place inexpensive and liveable for the time I have been here.
