Not that bad, but not great

While I don't agree that this is an ideal place to live, I don't really think that it is scary. Most of the people who live here are friendly enough and pretty much keep to themselves. However, people drive way too fast through the parking lot, and there are sketchy people who live here. I've never personally met anyone selling or doing drugs, but I wouldn't bet against it either. The gates offer only the appearance of protection because they are generally left unlocked, and like another reviewer noted, the parking lot code isn't much of a secret.
The management has been less than helpful in the past and occasionally rude, but there is an all new management team. I don't know if that is going to make a difference at all. If you decide to rent here, read the terms of the lease thoroughly - there are some strange rules. I have also had problems getting anything repaired in my apartment.
There are quite a few children here, and they make the standard children noises - if that bothers you, you might consider going somewhere else. The dishwasher, laundry machines, showers, and vacuum cleaner from the apartment above us can be pretty loud, but it isn't like we can hear their conversions or anything.
About half of the lights in my quad of the complex have been out for a couple of weeks now, which makes it uncomfortable to walk my dog, but that is just a recent development.
Overall, this isn't really a bad place to live. If the area and price is right for you, you could certainly do worse. But I recently found out that I am paying significantly less than my neighbors for the exact same apartments. I guess that I got a pretty good deal, but I wouldn't pay more that I am paying for this place.
