This is just an example of the mentality in the office at the Moorings. I wish I would have had a tape recorder at time. I absolutely could not believe my ears. I am honestly going to try to tell this, quote by quote.
I went into the office to let them know, that in the evenings, after closing, I have noticed kids, somewhere in the age of 12-16 were scavengeing through the ashtray, just outside the office back door, to pick out unfinished cigarettes out of their ashtray. (Okay, I can't even begin to describe how gross that is, but that would be an entire new column.) Anyway, I thought they should know, to hopefully rectify it. I walked in the office, explained to one of the girls (not one of the two front office girls, they were not there)what I had noticed and seen for myself, time and time again. I told her, I had noticed in the evenings, that these children were picking through their ashtray after hours, picking out the (good) cigarette butts, taking them, and smoking them.
Here is where I almost lost it. Her response was "We clean the ashtray every morning". I then again explained, "You don't understand! These children, are taking them after you close at night." She then again said "We clean it every morning". I could do nothing but look her in the eyes, with what I am sure, was a dumb founded look, turn away and shake my head back to my Apartment.
This was about 6 months ago....The kids tradition still continues, night after night.
I would think, just for the fact, of what is right, healthy and the correct thing to do. The office would have found a way to rectify this issue. Perhaps they just enjoy contributing to under age children. I guess it's their way of giving back to their community.
I swear, this entire senario happened, just as I have explained. I just could not believe my ears.

Where is it written in the lease that the office has to control who takes something from an ashtray? Give me a break.

I agree on that one. Not the office's issue, that's a parent thing. Stick to the issues the complex has... there are plenty.
