Nice apartments, rest is so-so

When I look for an apartment I look for floorplan, rent and location. I prefer that the management not be totally insane, and I realize that they will usually be annoying. With that criteria, I would probably move here again, but it would be a close call.

I moved in in 2002, and the quality of the apartments for the rent was pretty much the best in the area (=reasonably close to ASU). The surrounding neighborhood is lower middle class, but I felt perfectly safe walking every morning. Without gates, you can get in and out easily. But so can car thieves, at least according to the notices that would regularly show up on my door.

Also, though you are close to the 101 and 202, there's nothing convenient around. The neighborhood affects the shopping - the grocery stores and the discount (Walmart/K-Mart, etc.) nearby are older, smaller and have less selection than other areas of town. Other stuff is farther - the closest drycleaner (for example) is maybe four miles away, the closest bank not in a grocery store is probably five miles, and your nearby restaurant selection ranges from fast food to skeezy looking. The less I lived on a student budget, the more annoying this became.

The complex is filled with people (I assume ASU undergrads) with a flexible definition of bedtime. I often heard them enjoying the balmy Arizona evenings - under my window or on their deck across the way - until maybe 3 or 4 am. It's not nearly as bad as other places, but you could definitely tell when there was no school the next day.

The people in the office were indeed irritating. I had to harrass them for renewal information, they refuse to take packages, they were often rude and condescending. Overall, the staff were a constant source of bizarre stories (I won't bother repeating) traded between my friends and I who lived there, but they didn't actually cause me any harm. My deposit, less a minimal cleaning fee for gunk I couldn't get out of the carpet, was returned when I moved out.

I left because I needed a 2 bedroom, didn't like those floor plans particularly, and they were completely unresponsive to my request for information on rent/available units. We found a place we like better in a much more accessible neighborhood.

You are correct, in my opinion. These apts do have nice floorplans and I like the location to ASU, 101 & 202- but the mgt is condescending, rude and unresponsive. I will not renew a 3rd time.
