Great apartments, bad corporate policies

The apartments themselves are amazing-- lots of space, no maintenance issues yet, no bug problems, clean surroundings, nice facilities.
My only gripes about the apartments: Somewhat thin walls-- I live on the third level which is great, but I can still hear my DOWNstairs neighbors trudging around and blasting music. These same neighbors are constantly smoking in their apt and on the balcony, and when we are on our balcony or have windows open, it is a nuisance.
So, like anywhere, it depends on your neighbors...
Also, the a/c unit is really loud , kind of vibrates the apt and sounds like constant running water behind the bedroom wall. After awhile, we got used to it.
Pool was being used by some rowdy people who trashed it recently; they put in a security guard; guard was assaulted; now pool closes at 11pm every night instead of the usual 24hrs. Kind of annoying-- gym is also within pool gates, so can't workout anymore at night if you want to.
As for their lease policies.....
When you move in here, MAKE SURE YOU READ YOUR LEASE AGREEMENT!! They used some tricky wording to rope us into another month here when we planned on moving out the end of August. We gave our 30 days notice on 8/4, and they said we were too late, and were now responsible for paying September rent as well. If you don't give them written notice, your lease becomes a month to month agreement at a higher price, and even if you give your notice late, it is effective to the END of the following month. ie), we give our notice 8/4-- instead of letting us be out by 9/4, we are stuck here till 9/30!! I never experienced a lease agreement like that. They are really asking for 60 days notice, which is shady. By law, 30 days is the only notice needed. But unfortunately we are bound by the stupid policies in their agreement, which simply makes them more money. I liked them up until this happened! Office staff was pretty nice overall, until we challenged this policy w/ the manager-- then she became rude and uncaring. Corporate was not very helpful either.

I have lived at several communities who did this. Leases usually end at the end of the month. Instead of complaining about it just accept it and move on! Why get upset over pitty little things? I lived here two years ago and I loved it. Only reason we moved was because we were expecting another baby and we needed a three bedroom and they only have 1's and 2's.We loved it here!

I've also lived at various places and the notice to vacate varied about as much between 30 days to 60 days... pretty much standard. 30 days is the MINIMUM that rental properties are allowed to request of the tenant. If I remember right off the top of my head it was 60 days when I lived there last year for 6 months (and I miss it...)
