Lived here 2 years now. 2nd floor unit, studio...unit was cleaned, freshly painted, and had carpet steam-cleaned right before I moved in. Dishwasher looked clean initially, but when I went to use it the second time, it didn't work, so I pulled the float valve, and it was crusted over inside with years of crud ...and along the inside bottom of the door...yuck. I took it to the office immediately and showed it to them; they sent the Maintenance guy right over and he cleaned it for me. They offered to replace the whole dishwasher.
The first time I had to call Maintenance was right when I first moved in, for a hot water valve on my water heater that is encrusted with corrosion and just begging to start leaking, which they declined to replace and left me a written note that they will replace it only if and when it actually starts leaking. I kept the paper, in case it does start...I have proof that they refused to fix it...but they came the very next day after I turned in the request. My toilet just started running all the time, so I need to turn that in and see how they handle that.
I don't use the laundry here, never even been in it. The Coinless Laundry down the block is cheaper by more than half on certain days, and kept pretty clean.
Despite what other people have said about bugs here, I haven't seen a bug since I moved in...not even a cricket...not even in the parking lot or out in the lawns. The pest control truck is up by the office every week, though, so maybe it is different in other buildings...
Parking used to be a real pain until they repaved the lots in September. Now the whole area around my building is virtually empty...but so are a lot of the units don't know if they threw a bunch of people out or if a lot of leases just all came up at once...People speed through the lots like they were NASCAR drivers...and dump a lot of trash out of their cars there too. Many of the apartments are undergoing renovation, and I find drywall screws and nails in the parking area every day....
Garbage dumpsters on my side of the complex don't pile up at all. There is an older couple of --------- who several times a week go through the trash with a fine toothed comb looking for cans.
Noise level horrible. I don't hear much at all from the people on either side of me while inside the apartment, but the four different people who have lived above me must breed rhinos or hold judo classes up there, I swear some nights I think I need to put on my hard hat. The worst noise comes from outside. If anyone holds even a normal level of conversation, talks on their cell phone, or anything outside in the quad, parking lot, or on the stairs or balconies, you can hear it like they are sitting on your lap...I know more about the personal lives of my neighbors than I ever want or need to...and sometimes the used car lot two doors down has car alarms going off all night that will drive you crazy....they had a Jeep in there that went off every night for hours on end two weeks running...
And then there are the domestics...Have had to call the cops about 10 times since I moved in because of various domestic fights out in the quad and parking lots...at least my one neighbor in this building who was a total control freak and abused his girlfriend verbally and loudly moved out last month...There were three cops up there talking to him a week before he moved, maybe he got thrown out of here...
2-3 cop cars at a time are in the parking lot pretty much weekly if not more often.
There used to be a bunch of loud, obnoxious --------- right around the corner who would sit up all night til 3 or 4 am talking and laughing and clattering beer bottles outside every other night or so in the summers, but I think they must have moved out, haven't heard them for awhile...not sure why the security patrol never shuts them up, Mesa has an 11pm noise ordinance...
The other MAJOR noise problem comes from the landscapers...they start with the blasted F***ing gas powered leaf blowers at 6-7am about 2-3 days a week in the summer, maybe once a week in the winter...and run them for a couple hours around the buildings...and always on my days off when I can actually try to sleep in...I can deal with the sound of the lawn mowers, but the leaf blowers will drive you freaking insane...
Haven't used the pools at all, just haven't had time. I like the little fitness center, and I use the racquetball court quite a bit, but a lot of the Hispanic kids like to get in the court and hang out, and they leave a lot of garbage in there...and some idiot has been leaving beer cans in there...theoretically you have to have a key on deposit from the office to get into either place, but someone must leave the door open a lot...
Have lived on this side of town for about 38 years now, so I knew it wasn't the best part of town, especially right here, in the middle of the lower class Hispanic part of town, so there is a lot of crime, especially auto theft, in the area. I don't feel particularly unsafe here, but I am careful to watch things and I am one mean MF so I don't expect any problems. Someone did steal a little wooden table right off my doorstep when I first moved in, never found it, but other than that I haven't had any trouble.
When I first moved in two years ago my immediate next door neighbors were drug users and probably dealing but they moved out about 6 months later...I used to find burned tin foil packets and little burnt bits of organic stuff on their doorstep which tended to blow over onto mine, and one time they left a lighter and burnt pair of tongs on my side of the balcony...that couple would let their trash pile up for two or three weeks on the balcony before taking it out. Management finally got on them about it and it stopped. Very happy when they moved out.
Frankly, it certainly isn't by far the best place to live, but it isn't the worst either, and other than the domestic fights, the noise levels, and the leaf blowers, the rest really doesn't bother me that much...

And, by the way, we had a drive-by shooting in the parking lot right by my building at 7:30am on Sunday, January 27th, 2008...no one was injured, but someone took a single shot at one of my more irritating problem neighbors while she was in the parking lot...cops running around in vests with M-16's...what a lovely way to wake up on a Sunday morning...

Wow, I lived there over 20 years ago when it was brand new. No problems like that at all. Mainly white college kids living there. Was once an awesome place to live. I lived there for a year, never saw a bug, a cop, nothing. But then that tells you how different people are now. A lot has changed in 20 years. Just wait another 20 years, now that's a scary thought. Just goes to show you how the bratty, spoiled kids of today grow up to be the losers and users of tomorrow.
