If you are looking for a place for a senior to live where they can still maintain some of their independence yet have someone around if they need them - this may be just the ticket. Just be sure to read the residents handbook carefully and ask lots of questions BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. (you'll have to ask to see it as they do not give it to you until after you move in)

A well kept campus of about 70 apartments ranging from studio to 2 bedroom deluxe units. This campus is a "buy-in or rent by the month" situation. Should you opt to buy in, you will lose 1/2 of your investment after 34 months should you decide to move out. In addition to the large "buy-in" fee, residents pay a monthly "service fee" which seems high (to me) if you do not use all of the ammenities offered. (The "rent price" I have quoted is just that - RENT - not buy in)

Each apartment includes range, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and washer dryer. They tell you there is a storage area, but that is questionable! A person cannot get inside it - let alone store anything since that is where the hot water heater and washer/dryer are. The shelf space above the washer/dryer is sufficient for detergent etc.

The campus is well-kept and home-like in every aspect. There is a swimming pool and jaccuzzi just outside of the clubhouse in the center of the campus and all walks are lined with shrubs and are pretty well kept.

The fees include monthly housekeeping service, a call system should you require healthcare assistance when no one is there to help you, 5 days free in the care center across the parking lot if you need it each year, cable TV and water at no extra charge. Trash pickup is also included in the fee and trash is picked up twice a week at your front door, also at no extra fee. Normal maintenance is provided when necessary at no extra charge, altho you will be charged for "special request" maintenance.

There is a Chapel attached to the Care Center across the driveway that is absolutely beautiful! The Chapel chimes play a christian song every hour on the hour (unless someone turns them off for an "event" in the Chapel) and services are held there every Sunday morning with the Campus Chaplain pastoring. It is a definate plus for a Christian senior.

The staff takes residents (who do not drive) to the grocery store every Tuesday and Wednesday and the same bus and staff take the residents out to dinner and out to breakfast twice a month each. Transportation to doctor visits is provided free within a certain area. There is a monthly birthday party in the clubhouse at which every birthday boy/girl for that month receives lunch free along with entertainment for all in attendance. You can eat lunch in the clubhouse every day at noon for a monthly fee or you can eat lunch in the clubhouse (and even bring guests) when you want to for a daily fee (a little higher - of course). There is also a small library and games to be shared with others in the clubhouse every day after lunch.

The staff are friendly and courteous. They do their best to make your life as happy as possible.

Parking is a nightmare. The parking spaces under covered parking are all reserved. If you want your own parking space, it will cost you $15 per month extra. The East parking lot is always filled with gritty sand and is rarely cleaned properly so that is a headache to those of us who live on the "outside" or driveway side of the campus. Inside apartments fare much better. Employees of the care center and visitors there as well drive way too fast in this parking lot and endanger seniors who may be walking - some with walkers - in the driveways.

The noise you may hear will be folks who are outside of your apartment talking too loud or just passing thru. The apartments themselves are very well insulated from each other.

Pets are allowed to move in with you at no extra fee, but be careful - should you lose your pet after you move in, you can never have another as long as you live here!

Come by the clubhouse Mon thru Fri 7 AM to 4 PM and pick up a brochure that will tell you all this and more!
