Glad I opted NOT to live at Atumn Ridge!

I almost applied for an apartment at Autumn Ridge because the deals were so good ($565/month for a roomy 1 bedroom). But after reading other reviews, I opted not to apply. I did tour the property and in fact visited three times. Here is what I saw and didn't see.
I never saw any scorpions, but it was winter time. There were just too many reviews mentioning the scorpion infestation for me to ignore them. Then when I asked the office staff, they claimed not to know anything about any such "problem" with scorpions (they just basically said if you ever have a problem let us know and we will get somebody out there to spray in a few days).
The apartments claim to have a "strict no-tolerance" policy for certain aggressive breeds of dogs. But while I was on a tour, there was a resident sitting in a grassy area on the property WITH HIS PIT-BULL. The leasing staff employee with me said she would "send him a nice letter" about the dog. I found this unbelievable. What they should have done would have been to evict him immediately. That is what I interpret a "strict no-tolerance" policy to be.
Speaking of dogs, they allow almost any breed (and apparently that actually allow ANY breed, per above) and one of the apartments I looked at had a very LOUD barking dog in the apartment right next door. No way was I going to entertain living there!
I also checked with Phoenix PD and sure enough, the property has a higher than normal crime rate. It is NOT GATED so there is nothing at all to discourage would-be car thieves and vandals. Because I have a nice car that cost me $30,000, I decided not to take the risk of living and parking my car there just because the rent was cheap.
The complex was built about 30 years ago but has recently been remodeled (some units are being remodeled now as they become vacant). I just think it is funny to lay down a piece of cheap vinyl flooring in the kitchen and say that it is "wood-like" when it is just hideous and obviously cheap stuff. They do not have but one ceiling fan and it is usually in the bedroom, so it is very difficult to keep the living room cool in the summer. I would think it would make more sense on a remodel to spend a little extra money putting in another ceiling fan in the living rooms! This is another example of how cheap the complex really is.
There is also a lot of noise to be expected from the high school right across the street, especially during fall football season. It might be a great location if you happen to have kids in high school, of course; otherwise, it is so close to the school that you might feel like you're on the playground at times-very noisy. lGjq8RUBjvsZjkb5ueji
