I lived at Bella Vista for 6 months while my boyfriend went to school in Phoenix and I have to say that, other than being in Phoenix, it is a very pleasant apartment community. I was really afraid to move to Phoenix - I heard so many bad things about crime and scorpions, etc...We couldn't make it down to check places out, so we chose the apartment sight unseen based on a recommendation from my boyfriend's school, and I'm really happy we did. I'm a pretty paranoid person, but I felt very safe in the neighborhood and the apartment community. It's in a really pleasant little area, close to an office park and with easy access to the freeway and major streets. The apartment was comfortable, we had a nice view of the pool, and a sweet little patio area. We had a few maintenance issues while there - backed up bath tub and broken dryer. Both of these were taken care of promptly and professionally. The dryer needed to be replaced entirely, and while we were waiting for the new one, they gave us keys to an empty apartment so we could use the one there. One poster mentioned a water shut off, and that did happen once while we were there, but we were warned ahead of time, it needed to be done for a line repair I believe, and those kinds of things just happen sometimes.
I found the staff, from move-in to move-out and everything in between, to be helpful, friendly, and pleasant, more so than I expected. I also never saw a single scorpion while I was there. I did have 2 cats, and they could have scared any away, but if you're afraid of scorpions and are an animal lover, just rescue a cat; I hear they're good at keeping scorpions at bay. Overall, I would tell my best friend or a close family member not to live in Phoenix if at all possible. The weather is miserable and it's just not a nice city. We really did not care for it, and were very happy to leave. BUT, if they HAD to, as we did for a short while, I would not hesitate to recommend Bella Vista apartments. I think it really is a hidden jewel in a rough desert city.
