When I moved in Jan. of 2008 and I did the initial inspection of the apartment that had been "cleaned". There were stains all over the carpet(if you decide to rent here wait a couple of days after they have "cleaned" the apartment so you can see all the stains that they miss), holes in the walls(and not just little holes big ones), my shower didn't work at all and neither did my disposal, there was dog poop on my balcony, and most of the corners with carpet looked to have been torn to shreds by dogs and finally the light bulbs in the kitchen were out(isn't that something you would notice while you were cleaning in the beginning). It took a couple of days for the maintenance to fix the shower and the disposal and bring me new light bulbs. The rest I have to live with.
A month later when it started to rain i had noticed that in the bedroom(when it was raining) it sounded like I had a leak(the constant drip noise as if it were a leaky faucet only hitting carpet). So one day I had my boyfriend look at it(as I am to short to really look at the ceiling). He noticed that the paint on the wall and the ceiling was bubbling out and when he went to touch the ceiling in the corner his finger went through the paint and out came water. It seemed as though the drywall in the corner had disintegrated and nothing was left but the paint, and there was some kind of leak coming from the roof. It took the maintenance 2 1/2 weeks to fix that and even then all they did was put plaster over the paint to make it look like there was nothing wrong with it but when it rains the plaster gets wet and looks like wet cardboard. No to long after this my downstairs neighbors water pipe busted! EVERYTHING that was on the floor was ruined. They had to replace his carpet and matting. I don't what they are doing if anything to compensate him for their mistakes in not trying to prevent this problem.
Recently they did what they call a "yearly inspection" to make sure you don't have anything that is not in your rental agreement and to put a smoke detector in the bedroom. At the time my boyfriend was over and he had brought our dogs that stay with him because he has already paid a pet deposit over at his place. The next day I get a notice on my door saying that I have to pay a pet deposit of $200.00 a pet(there are 2 full grown chihuahuas and 2 puppies) plus an extra $10.00 a month. The notice said "you must pay a pet deposit of $300.00, $100.00 if refundable. $10.00/mouthly dog rent. Of you refuse to pay, the five is $250.00!! P.S. pls, pick up after your dogs!!" I had explained to them when they came in that the dogs where only here for the day and that they didn't not stay here. So I call the office to explain that the dogs are only here 1 a week for a play date. The lady didn't really understand what I was saying and basically gave me a run around wanting to have a manager call me back. It will be a couple of days before I get a call back and eventually I will have to call them.
To top this all off the water is constantly getting cut off(at least once a week) for "maintenance problems", sometimes it's just the hot water. Once and while you'll get a notice other times you'll be getting ready to take a shower and you go to turn it on and nothing or you'll go to get in and it will be freezing. So if you can handle the terrible maintenance that you would be better off jimmie rigging yourself, the constant water being turned off, the office staff that will give you the run around if your lucky enough to get one that understands and can somewhat speak english then this is the place for you. Yeah I got a pretty good deal on it, $508.98 (with tax) a month and you pay electric(SRP). Oh and god forbid you aren't loaded so you can get Direct T.V. through Qwest who are the company they have a contract through(just so you know to get Direct T.V. with Qwest you have to have a home phone line so you're looking at at least $150.00 a month when you could just get Cox and pay $20.00 a month for basic cable), because you won't get local stations the reception is SO bad! I have to say I got what I paid for, a cheap price for a cheap apartment.
If this doesn't make you not want to live here i don't know anything else that will unless you experience it for yourself but then you'll be wishing you had listened to me. For your owe sake DO NOT move in here, you'll regret it I do.
