Hey buddy, guess what..regardless of what you and your friend think, if it is in the lease (and usualoly it is) they can charge you the money and rightfully so. What you did was practice not only bad business but unethical business and don't want to take the blame. My suggestion, don't skip out on your obligations!

I use to work in the leasing business. I know that it is legal in AZ to charge rent of the lease only if the apartment remains empty. Maybe you should take the time to learn the law before you commit yourself legaly to anything.
