Ever since the new management took over a year and a half ago, the entire complex has gone downhill. I list the following reasons:
1- My rent went up over 100 dollars when I resigned my lease. The reason I was given' "Fair market value". Nevermind the fact that the entire area is beginning to slide downhill (Wal Mart closed down, more homeless people in the area, crime is rising), they seem to think that the area is on the upswing, hence "fair market value".
2- The parking debacle. Today marks the day where the management, in their infinite wisdom, decided to restructure the parking plan. People--including myself--that had a place to park right in front of the building now have to park 500 feet away from their door.
3- Poor scheduling/execution. Every time they plan on complex-wide project (eg: repaving the lots), they schedule it for one day, but do it some different day, and dare to be upset that the residents aren't flexible.
4- Turning off the water for maintenance with little to no warning. Self explanitory.
5- Complete apathy. Did the washing machine eat your money' They don't care. It's not their problem. Is someone parked in your parking spot' They don't care. It's not their problem. Did the painters accidentally splatter your balcony chairs with brown paint' They don't care. It's not their problem.
6- Joke of a gym. Two years ago, we had a spacious and beautiful gym. New management shows up, closes down the gym, converts it to an office, moves the gym to the other side of the complex, and reduces the gym equipment by over 50%. The gym is now about the size of a master bedroom with no more than six pieces of equipment.
7- Horrible landscaping. Their million dollar project (aka the reason our rent went up) turned out to be a complete joke. They ripped down the orange trees, ripped out the grass, and put down....ROCKS! Yes, ROCKS...an amazingly brilliant terrain for rattlesnakes and scorpions.
The one good thing I'll say about La Palma apartments is this: Their maintenance crew is great. For me, they've been punctual, polite, friendly, personable, and, efficient, and apt. I've no complaints about these hard-working women and men.
That being said, IT IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR MONEY TO MOVE TO THIS APARMENT COMPLEX. YOU CAN FIND MUCH BETTER FOR SLIGHTLY CHEAPER. DON'T GET SUCKERED IN BY ATTRACTIVE MOVE-IN SPECIALS. THE MANAGEMENT HERE IS APATHETIC, INEPT, AND BUSINESSMINDEDLY RETARDED.
