Montelano is in theory a nice place. It just has to deal with the fact it is in a poor neighborhood and has a poor management company. The complex is close to twenty years old, and was well taken care of when it was still Sands Point, but as Fairfield took over things have gotten quite worse. As well, it isn't in the best neighborhood, so it doesn't attract the best neighbors.
Maintenance around the complex is very lax. The trash is not picked up nearly enough, and there is garbage all around the complex. There is garbage and spills all over the halls and walkways.
The security gates are always open, and even if they were closed, the gates are just for the driveways; anyone could walk right in and break into a car, as they usually do.
The management seems to be mostly concerned with getting the rent and not much else. Work requests take forever to be fulfilled. Don't even bother complaining about the noise, it is useless.
Which brings me to the residents of Montelano. It seems most residents tend not to care about their community or their neighbors and it shows. Trash is everywhere, just piled near the dumpster, or in hallways. Kids are always left unattended in the pools or just running around the complex screaming day and night. As well, the noise is unbearable. The walls and floor is paper thin, and it seems there is someone in every building who wants to share their bass and music with you. I have complained about my downstairs neighbors constantly, and nothing ever happens.
At least on the upside, if you have bad neighbors, they usually won't be there too long. Not that the management company does anything, it just has high turn over. Mostly due to residents not paying their rent or being removed by the Phoenix PD.
Overall, the place is messy, but doesn't look too bad. The apartments are big and have nice floor plans are good, as long as nothing breaks. Though, you probably won't like your neighbors, and if you don't like noise, you won't like Montelano. I would not recommend Montelano to anyone.
