When the name changed, so did the service...

I lived at this property a year under the Sands Point Management and a year under the Montelano Management and was NOT satisfied with the change. When the company switched, I was about 2 months from needing to renew my lease and had received a note on my door that my lease was going to expire in 30 days. So I left messages after messages for them to call me (I worked the hours they were open) and I NEVER received a response from them until I wrote a letter and left it in their drop box including a copy of my lease boldy highlighting the end date. Then, a few weeks later, I receive another letter on my door stating that I was a month behind in rent..keep in mind that I've been there almost a year at this point and they were claiming that I missed the first month's rent. When asked why wasn't this caught with the prior Management company, I was told they were doing an audit. So of course, I took all my cancelled checks to them, including the check made out to them for the deposit and FIRST MONTH'S rent upon moving in. It took them a week and a half just to blankly apologize. As if that wasn't enough, a few months later, I needed maintenance work to be done in my unit and wasn't told that I would have to pay for the service (which I had no problem with, but I wasn't told). So, I get another note on my door stating that my rent was in arrears by $12 and would be considered late and late fees would be added if I didn't pay within 5 days. So, I placed a call to them and demanded to know why I was being penalized for something that I had no idea I had to pay. I wasn't left an invoice or anything and when I asked the dumbfounded lady in the office what sense does that make, she could only reply, that is how we do things. Of course, I paid for the service, but I told her if this effected my rental history in any way, I would take action because I have had more errors with this company in the 2 months that they were there than I did with Sands Point Management. Everytime I would go into the office, there were at least 3-4 tenants in there complaining about an error or a note left on their door. The rent had jumped over $130 when I renewed my lease and we were also now paying full utilities, which was a result of the "new and improved renovations being made.(painting the apartments and redoing the parking lines).
When I moved out of the apartments, I went to turn in my keys and the Staff were so short and irritated. She didn't ask me for a forwarding address to send my deposit, I had to "remind/ask" her if she needed it. Upon receiving my deposit, I noticed $40 was missing for the water bill and I noticed that I wasn't reimbursed for my weight room key. My normal payment for water was consistently $27 so I called the office and spoke with a gentleman and asked him to explain to me why I was charged for a final bill when, before I moved out, I made an online payment to the water company for the final month and then proceeded to ask about the key. I was told that the final bill was $67 for the water. I asked when was the increase made and was told that the bill was based on the entire apartment's water usage and we were to pay the average. So conveniently, as I was moving, the apartment started to use more water and it was in the winter so it wasn't like the pools were being filled. When I told him that I made a payment online, and the invoice stated I owed $27 (as always), he became irate and told me that I would need to contact the corporate office. So then, I asked him about the key and he told me that the management before me didn't let them know that they were refunding the weight room key upon returning it. So I told him, I have it in writing and in my original lease and he told me that they would have to tell them! A bunch of bull.
I am now trying to rent a house and the Property Manager had sent some papers for them (Montelano) to fill out regarding rental history and such and the paper was poorly filled out and now we are in pending status still waiting on someone to respond with a completed form. I definitely don't recommend this property to anyone. You will never hear from these people unless you are late with your rent or anything else that has to do with you owing them money! The only thing great about this complex is the neighbors! DON'T DO IT!!!!
