Unfair Discrimination

Within the last week my girlfriend and I stopped by the Palisades to look at an apartment. After spending 10-15 minutes talking to a woman in the office, handing her our proper IDs, and getting into the golf cart--we were unexpectedly stopped. Due to the fact that I had a REMOVABLE piece of eyebrow jewelry that the office staff hadn't even noticed until 20 minutes into talking with us, we were refused the ability to see the apartment. There was no offer made for me to remove the piece of jewelry to view the apartment either. Upon reading the paper handed to us, which outlines the multiple points of discrimination that is endorsed by the owner of the property, I was even more baffled--while I was not allowed to have an eyebrow piercing (visible), or a tongue stud (NOT VISIBLE), I WAS able to have a nose piercing (visible). We are a ------- couple with college degrees and professional jobs, discrimination like this should not be tolerated and I advise people to consider their personal freedoms before moving into these apartments.

That is stupid, who cares what you do in your off time in your own apartment as long as you can pay your rent on time! Besides it's not like you want to work for them!

If this jewelery is part of your religious background or beliefs, creed, etc... you are able to file a suit against them. You have up to one year from the event to file a complaint with HUD- WHO WILL LAUNCH AN INVESTIGATION, and up to two years to file a lawsuit. I would definitely take this complaint to HUD if I were you.

You sound like one of these people who fail to catch on that APPEARANCE IS EVERYTHING. If you go in dressed like you dont care, you will not send a positive impression. This apartment complex had every legal right to refuse you entry. And by the way, discrimination only refers to gender, religion, nationality and ethnicity. If you came into my office seeking work and looking the way you did, I would have showed you the door too! But dont blame the apartment complex--blame yourself. I'm surprised your "college" education didnt teach you that.
