Take reviews with grain of salt

I am moving to San Diego in a few months. Not because I don't like it here, but because my husband will be stationed out there with the Marines. I was using this website to investigate potential homes in the SD area. I started to notice a theme no matter what complex I looked at...everyone seems really unhappy and down on where they live. So, I decided to check out places I'd lived on here to see hoe the review compared to my experience. Guess what' Everyone still has crappy attitudes.
Most of the complaints I see have to do with things that you cannot control anywhere, such as neighbor quality. I guess you could perform interview and background checks on everyone if you're really that concerned. People complain about noises they can hear through the wall. Well, yeah. It's an apartment, to reitterate. You're sharing that wall with someone else Genius. There are a lot of people in minimal space. That is the essence of apartment. Then there is the crime rate in some places- your responsibility to check it out before you move, not the complexe's. As for parking, a common complaint everywhere, we're talking apartments here people. There is limited space, so yeah, it's going to be tight. Maybe ditch the monster SVUs for something smaller, just a thought. I don't know what to say to people who think they're being nickel and dimed, except: read your friggin lease - ALL of it. Office staff turnover is fine if people. You don't know why they're leaving, so wait to leap into some horrible conclusion.
As for this complex in particular...if something's been broken, they've fixed it in a timely manner. I do not find the maintenance staff creepy, but quite friendly and helpful. The only complaint would be that some nuts do go to the pool in the middle of the night and make a lot of noise. HOWEVER, my apt. is right next to the wall and I can only hear the noise from rooms that have windows that look onto the pool. The majority of units in the place are NOT located next to the pool. And if you call security, they will take care of it. But, if you stick your head out the window and ask them to keep it down, they usually will.
To sum it up, before you move anywhere it is your job to check it out. The sales office is going to try and sell you an apartment...gee, who woulda thunk' So, you need to be a wary an concious consumer. It takes work, but you might be happier in the long run.
