When my wife and I moved into our apartment last June, things were looking pretty good...until we got all of our belongings into our third-floor unit and walked down to the car to go to our first dinner. We were approached by a man who asked us if we had any knowledge about his stolen car. Stolen car' We'd just moved in! After dinner we took a cold shower because we'd moved in during the hottest part of the day. We tried to plug in a lamp only to find that the outlets were painted over to the point that we couldn't get the plug in. And it was that way with EVERY SINGLE OUTLET in the unit. The next day (our first full day in the unit) we discovered that the water heater didn't work anyway. When maintenance workers came to fix it, one of the guys was just about electrocuted because he apparently didn't know what he was doing. They got the thing working for a little while, but later on in the evening, the guy who had nearly been shocked to death knocked on our door to tell us that we'd have a new water heater installed the next day. Cool! Errr...hot! Whatever. Anyway, when they came to install the new one the next day, their method of removing the old heater was, to say the least, a little unconventional. They threw it off the balcony. They threw it off the third floor balcony! The thing made a crater in the dirt and rocks below! Anyhow, to make a long, long, LONG story short, in the next two weeks we had to have the washer, drier, refrigerator, all electrical outlets and stove elements replaced...our dishwasher has been of absolutely no use to us in the entire 10 months that we've lived here...the insides of the toilet tanks were covered in mold (it took a while before we figured that one out)...and about a hundred other little things too numerous to mention. Thankfully, the gal who rented the unit to us, Emily, and the manager, Roxanne, went bye-bye when the new leasing agency moved in a few months ago. Okay...all of that aside, so far, the new management has treated us pretty well. The maintenance staff here is, to say the least, completely overworked. There are over 800 units here and only about eight of them, so I can understand why it sometimes takes them a little time to get things done. I also sing their praises because they have always been very professional and friendly. (Hint: if you're in the apartment when they come to fix something, offer them a Coke or bottle of water. It will go a long way! Also, don't blame them if something doesn't work! Freaking out on a maintenance worker isn't going to help you at all! And that goes for any apartment complex, not just the Presidio.)
