I love my apartment here

I chose Promontory Pointe after visiting many apartments and reading the reviews here. I think people are mostly right about the place...for me, this is the ideal situation. I narrowed it down to this place and one of the Mark Taylor properties, and ultimately chose the Pointe because I could have a dog.

I have a 3rd floor one bedroom in the newer half of the complex. I have amazing city and mountain views, and a great, well-maintained and spacious apartment. Either my neighbors are tiny, quiet people who are never home, or the walls are very soundproof (I've met them...it's definitely the walls!)

Things I really like:
*you couldn't live any closer to the mountain preserves...you can easily walk to great trails for running, hiking and mountain biking, and from here you can literally mountain bike all over town, almost exclusively on dirt trails!

*the maintenance and office staff are great and really responsive (everyone in the front office learned my name after one visit, and have been incredibly warm, welcoming and nice). My one service request (to fix my disposal) was attended to within 24 hours.

*the apartment layout is nice, and feels homey rather than boxy.

*there is plenty of parking for guests near my apartment

*the grounds are pretty and well-maintained

*the apartments are well-made (solid core doors, nice new carpet, sun screens on all the windows, etc)

*my kitchen is very well designed, great for cooking and entertaining, with lots of storage and counterspace, and a good setup.

*the location makes it easy to get downtown or to escape north out of Phoenix.

*I feel very safe, with the gates and the extra lock on my door.

Things that are a bummer:
*Traffic noise coming off 7th Street can be substantial during rush times. I noticed that the ground and second floor apartments are much quieter than mine, as they are more buffered by greenery. However, if I close my patio doors and windows, I can't hear anything at all.

*the air conditioner blower fan is pretty loud...if I run the AC at night, I have to close my bedroom door to block out the fan noise (on the other hand, the AC works great!)

*the built-in microwave doesn't have a turn-table (I know, this is a totally minor detail, but just something to know :)

*the exercise room doesn't have a lot to offer compared to some of the other apartments I considered (no free weights)

*there's only one towel rack in the bathroom, and only two tiny drawers (plus under-sink cabinets)

*there are a few non-pooch-poop-picker-uppers in the complex, which is so lame, but is definitely not a big deal unless you are completely turned off by ever seeing dog poop (if you are, you might not want to live in a complex that allows dogs...)

*it's not super-duper easy to get to the freeway from here.

*if you are a road biker - 7th street is NOT a good place to ride your bike, so riding away from the complex requires a little bit of zig-zagging to get to a major street with a good bike lane.

*you have to drive all the way to the office to get out of the complex.

However, on the whole I would definitely recommend this place to my friends if they were looking to move here. I am very happy, and will definitely miss this place after I move into my new house! More than any other apartment I looked at, this place felt like home.
