Years at this apartment:

I am a travel nurse who is currently residing at promontory pointe. At first I was pretty impressed with the apartment. Big and roomy. It is a two bedroom with two bathrooms. The fountain and barbecue grill just outside our apartment were a big plus. Then I started to look closer. The second bathroom shower was disgusting. They never heard of CLR here. The tile grout was brown from the hard water. I spent a day and a half cleaning it so now the grout is only pale yellow instead of disgusting brown. The microwave oven is very nice, but the stove and refrigerator are older than I am (I am 30 years old). I would not mind that they are older for me if they worked, but they do not. Actually, the stove works now - after maintenance came to fix it twice. Everything was burnt on the top and raw on the bottom. My husband is an excellent cook and nothing was coming out right. As for the refrigerator, I have lost count of how many times they have come to "fix" it. They come in with a blow dryer about two or three times a month to defrost it so it will work for another two weeks or so. The food in my fridge spoils, and I have to throw out some food from the freezer each time. (It is currently broken again - the fridge is at fifty degrees - when I am done I am going to put my food in the outdoor storage area - it is colder outside than it is in my fridge)
The vertical blinds work, but many of the slats are different shades of white.
The dishwasher is the standard bottom of the line apartment dishwasher. It only has one spinning arm - on the bottom. It works okay if you load it correctly (so that nothing is blocking the spray to the top shelf). It is a new dishwasher, but being bottom of the line, it does not work well. It is the same one that is in most of the apartments I have been put up in by my travel nurse agency.
The furnace did not work the first time I tried to use it. The next day, in frustration over the poor quality of this place, I gave the thermostat a "therapeutic tap" and the furnace started to work. I don't know what that was about, but at least I did not have to call maintenance.
I have a dog and I clean up after him - which is the exception to the rule. When I first arrived, I only used the flashlight at night when I was picking up after my dog. That stopped when I stepped in something that someone else had not picked up that used to be Alpo. I bought a flashlight that clips onto my pants now - it works great to avoid those messes and to clean up after my dog. The frustrating thing was the stuff I stepped in was about five feet from the dog poop bag dispenser. LAZY people.
The windows are as old as the complex. They don't keep sound out. You can feel cool air in the winter and warm air in the summer nearby them. It is not too horrible as I have stayed in places with worse windows.
There are multiple poorly patched areas on the ceiling and walls.
The carpet is clean and it seems to have been treated with a stain resistant coating of some sort. When it is dirty, the carpet cleaner does a good job of cleaning it.
The pools are nice when it works. Usually we start at one pool - the heater is broken on it - and we go to another pool. Sometimes the second pool does not work either (We don't bother trying the third or fourth pool - we just call it quits). The hot tubs rarely work. They are either not hot or the bubbles don't work. Most of the pools have a nice misting sprinkler on them - except for pool number one. That one broke from the hard water and they never fixed it. The furniture by the pool is old and would not be bad if they cleaned it once in a while. The bathrooms by the pools are usually clean.
It does not make sense to me to live in a gated community if the gates are open when the leasing office is open. Crimes can and do happen in the daytime. The gates are open seven days a week during the daytime when the leasing office is open.
On the positive side, the staff is really nice. If you rent from them, part of what you pay goes towards the purchase price of a new home if you get one from them or one of their partners. It would be a good way to save some money towards a home if you planned on getting a new built one.
