Promontory Pointe is one of the two nicest places I have ever rented, and has been one of the main reasons I haven't bothered to buy a house yet. The scenery and wildlife can't be beat (it's right on the corner of a Hilton resort, a city mountain park, and a state mountain park), I get to watch a desert mountain sunset whenever I'm home from work on time. Access to several pools is very convenient (one pool and all hot tubs are heated in winter), and the fitness room is decently equipped and well maintained. Grounds are well kept. Maintenance (aside from one air conditioning problem on move-in) has been infrequent, and very prompt when needed. Parking is gated and one space per apartment is covered, with plenty of extra spaces uncovered--I've never had a problem finding a spot for the second car. Small to medium pets are allowed, pet rent is charged for uncaged pets.
The complex is divided into three sections; I like the northern ones better by far. They are quiet, newer, prettier (IMO), have full-size washer/dryer, bigger kitchen, and seem to have better neighbors (I haven't had a bad one yet). Access to the main road is a bit convoluted, but that makes car theft (a huge issue throughout Phoenix) a rarity here. Some neighbors have mentioned minor crimes (items missing from outside storage locker, stolen license plates). Only other downside is there's no convenience/grocery shopping within walking distance. Beautiful hiking trails, yes.
