Going Downhill Fast...

Updated again April 2, 2003
First the good stuff, and then the bad stuff about going downhill fast.
Looks very nice inside and out, and even won a national award in 1999 as Best New Garden Style Apartments in U.S. Move-in in 2001 was very clean with new paint and carpet. High quality washer/dryer in every apartment. Nice landscaping outside. Nice 24 hour fitness center with lots of machines. Great parking with lots of big spots for both residents and visitors. Relatively well lit outside and gated. For the most part, a safe neighborhood. Everything was new and clean and well taken care of by friendly, courteous, organized and helpful management and office staff, and quick, effective maintenance. Used to be a good clientele with a mix of Indian Nationals and American business and computer professionals and their families along with WIU, DeVry and other students. Quiet time after 10 pm was actually enforced with few exceptions, good for anyone who had to get up early for work.

Going Downhill Fast...
There has been a major change in this place since I renewed my lease this past summer (2002), and an even bigger change since a short 6 month extention, which will allow me to move out in just a few months (Summer, 2003).
1 - Crime
The police have been here a couple of times today, (April 2, 2003), the most recent time at 9:30 pm. A police helicopter was overhead shining its spotlight all over the parking lot (this was not the first time, nor will it be the last), and there were 3 cop cars in the parking lot. Dont know if they were arresting criminals who live here in the complex, which would not be a bit surprising, considering the trash that has been moving in here lately due to many vacancies and lower rents (empty apartments are everyplace - everybody is moving out!!!), or if they just drove right in since the gates any more are always broken and wide open most of the time.
2 - Gates
This place is supposed to be gated, but the gates are frequently broken open. As of this writing, (April 2, 2003), three of the four gates are broken open. One was smashed open recently and is bent, and usually at least one of the two gates out front are constantly broken open. Also, when going through the gate that works, they tailgate you and blast their horn at you if you dont "go through fast enough".
3 - Noise Level
I have lowered my noise level rating from 5 to 3.
3a - Stereos Blasting - Many more noisy people with loud music blaring in their apartments, and loud music blasting in their car stereos, including late on work nights.
3b - Horns Blasting - Many of the new residents rudely blast their horns whenever they feel like it, such as at 5:00 am when theyre picking up friends for work, and at 2:30 am when theyre dropping off drunken partiers after a night of barhopping. For a while, they sometimes were just driving around at 2am and 3am blasting their horns over and over again, making sleep very difficult on work nights. This occurs on work nights during so-called "quiet time".
4 - Fast, Unsafe driving and peeling out -
Several people driving very fast and peeling out late at night and even in broad daylight all over the complex. There are fresh tire strips all over the parking lot. Also large numbers of people racing through the parking lot very fast, ignoring the stop signs and hitting the speed bumps hard and fast without braking. Totally unsafe for any family with children. This has even happened right in front of the leasing office in front of management.
I have lowered my rating for the office staff from a 5 to a 3.
Even though they could qualify for a 5, they dont seem to care about what is happening to the complex. They say they do, but I see very little action. This is very sad.
I used to love it here, but no longer. I plan to move out when my lease extension expires, later this summer, or as soon as I find a new place.
I dont think I can recommend San Valiente as a nice place to live at this time.
Actually, the place is beginning to suck.
