Moved here from the East Coast and chose this apartment based solely on 1) location (work across the street) and 2) age (less than 5 years old and modern architechture). Never saw a unit before I completed the online application, but I took the virtual tour and loved what I saw. Fortunately, it wasn't staged because I put down my deposit before I even arrived in Arizona!
Shade is clean, well-kept, and has a "wow" reputation among my coworkers and others who work in the area. Sure, there's the occasionaly tenant who leaves beer bottles, ashtrays, and maybe a mismatched door mat outside his unit, but this is occasional and MAYBE affects 3% of the units. If you're expecting perfection you're not going to find it in an apartment complex, but this is the closest thing I've seen. And, yes, since moving to Arizona I've driven by other complexes and have no regrets with my decision, even if I pay more.
And now for my favorite things... the pools are large and rarely used in the wintertime but still heated, some units have vaulted ceilings and skylights which means I rarely need to use lights during the day, and I have a private garage with its own door opener! If you want convenience to the Desert Ridge area, I can wholeheartedly recommend Shade as THE place to live!
