I am actually still living here. My lease comes up January 31, and I can't WAIT to get out of here! I came here because of the price... a small 1 bedroom is all I needed and under $500 is all I could afford... well, let me tell you, unless you have to, don't move in here. I haven't had a problem with roaches, but I have had a problem with flooding. Second night in here my upstairs neighbor fell asleep with a chicken in the oven... filling his unit with smoke, and threatening to send my meager existence to the fires! Then, he overfilled the bathtub, flooding my entire bathroom (its a rude awakening waking up at 1 A.M. with the sound of water falling through your ceiling!)... I had to call out sick to work because I got no sleep because of cleaning up the water. 6 months later, the apartment upstairs and to the west of me flooded, completely ruining the vacant unit downstairs, and flooding my luckily then empty living room. And again, just a few weeks ago, I spent hours cleaning up water from my upstairs neighbor.
Last summer, I went to go to work, and I walk out side my door to find the walkway cut off by police crime scene tape, several officers and a CSI van sitting in the parking lot, and someone lying under a sheet who wasn't sleeping 2 doors down from me!
There's a crazy lady in a pink hat sleeping out on the lawn by the West Entrance (I see her sitting there every day when I go to work), I've had items stolen from my car (but no windows broken, ironically). 4 months after moving in, there was a drug-bust in the parking lot outside my unit (we are talking I looked out my window and there was plain-clothed officer yelling "Get the F*@# on the ground!", cop cars everywhere, choppers overhead, and a guy running to the unit above me!)
It's been one nightmare after another. If you tell the management about a problem, they won't fix it, but if you send them a letter stating that you will take them to court if they don't, then they will.
My neighbors are noisy (I actually heard someone from a building over doing it one night!), crime is high, there are homeless people everywhere, and the management doesn't care one bit, as long as you pay them your rent on time. Walking back from the central laundry room (which charges you $2/load to wash and dry!) I saw a guy drop his pants to pee because he was plastered drunk. I had my portable CB radio with me, so I turned the squelch nob so that the radio would send out static... he fell over and pissed all over himself and stumbled away because he thought I was a cop! Had I had my cell, I would have called them!
My advice... look elsewhere, get a roommate if you have to!
