I have lived a Villa Encanto for approximately 2 years. I first lived in a small one bedroom apartment on the 44th street side and then I moved to a 2 bed/2 bath on the Thunderbird side.
I was amazed at the quality difference between the two apartments. The one on the 44th st. side was very shabby in comparison. In the 2 bed/2 bath fixtures were nicer, bathroom tile seemed newer, appliances seemed not from 1955, etc. I was very excited as it seemed I had moved over to the "nicer" part of the complex. In addition, the landscaping and pools seemed much nicer on this side of the complex as well.
Unfortunately, the pool near our apartment spent many days locked up last summer, with people from the health department coming and going checking the water. It turns out the health department had shut the pool down! That can't be good, right'
There are many children living at this side of the complex. We like them and enjoy hearing them play and laugh, but lately it seems they are running amuck, staying up late riding bikes in their PJ's and basically not being monitored by parents at all. I caught a couple of kids the other day dangling a cat from the second story on a leash. Let me tell you, I gave them a serious verbal lashing and I hope not to see that kind of behavior again. We have also reported another tenanat for literally starving a small puppy on his porch; keeping the poor dog outside in the rainy and cold winter months, sleeping in its own feces, etc. When we called the office to report the mistreatment, we were poo-pooed and made to feel like "snoops". Well, I will be happy to be called a "snoop" if it means that puppy will be given a better chance to survive. I called the police and reported the incident instead.
My one-year lease is nearly up in this apartment and over the last 6 months I have seen some pretty scary folks living here. There is a truck in the parking lot that has been parked in the same spot for 2 weeks. The windshield is peppered with bullet holes that pushed through and shattered the back window. Someone had to be pretty upset with this dude to blow his shoot his windshield out like that. I can't say that this happened her in the complex, but what does that say about the kind of neighbors we have' No one has ever tried to shoot out MY windshied and I don't usually associate with folks that have had this type of problem. Also, lately there has been a trend with sketchy males in their 20's hanging around smoking blunts on the green, metal, electric boxes around the complex. I see them just sort of loitering around, smoking and watching me as I come and go. As a young woman walking through the complex after dark, I have begun to feel rather unsafe.
I have never seen any creepy-crawlies in this apartment (although spiders and ants were of concern in my last apartment here). However, you can lasso and ride the cockroaches that hang around the dumpsters in the parking lot, especially the night before the city comes to empty them, when the garbage is so full that you must leave your bag in one of the many shopping carts that are left in front of the dumpsters on a daily basis. Also, this complex is a regular stop for dumpster divers who ride up on their bikes around dusk (before the gates are locked...when they are actually locked, which is NEVER)to sift through our garbage. These folks have never bothered me, but then again perhaps their level of poverty hasn't reached that point yet where they are forced to accost me as I walk from my car to my apartment.
I could go on and on, obviously...
Suffice to say, my lease is nearly up and I will NOT be renewing here. I have come to see this complex taking a downhill train FAST. I would not recommend this complex to my friends. It has simply become unsafe and unsightly.
