Expensive for what you get. And not to mention, a rude and surly manager. Stay Away!

I recently moved out of the Glassford Hill Apartments after nine months. There are several issues that would keep me from recommending this complex. Firstly, if you live downstairs -- and assuming that the unit above is occupied -- you will certainly hear every footstep of your upstairs neighbor. So much so, that I became aware of my neighbor's [nocturnal] bathing habits and plumbing problem (a tub that drips will amplify downstairs).

Secondly, my issues with maintenance. When my dishwasher broke (shortly after moving in), it was replaced after the maintenance worker deemed it irreparable (after two hours of fiddling with the dishwasher). However, following maintenance calls did not prove to be on par to the first (with the exception of fixing my leaking toilet -- which was addressed within a few days). For example, lightbulbs have an inherit problem of burning out in this complex. I likely spent over $20 in interior lightbulb replacements (I've tried requesting that the kitchen floodlights be replaced, but they never got to it).

Don't believe me' The issue with burnt out lighting is evident when driving around the complex at night (go visit for yourself). Lights above parking areas are not replaced. Further, the exterior lighting of buildings are not inspected and replaced. Thus, a safety issue...

Case in Point: In about November 2008, I heard my doorknob shaking, with someone apparently attempting to enter my apartment. The time' About 2 AM. I look out my door, through the peephole, and notice two men with hats trying to get in. I grab a blunt object for protection and run to call 911. The police arrive within three minutes. However, the two men are gone.

The next day, I go to the apartment office to request that five of the six exterior lights be replaced. Then I explain the reasoning to my request. The manager (who I have issues with, and will elaborate later in this review) interjects into my conversation with one of the office workers and states something to the statement of "Well, they probably got the wrong apartment..." I politely agree. Nonetheless, the lights were not replaced until about two weeks later. And a couple weeks after, they started to burn-out, again.

And perhaps the straw that broke the camel's back: The Manager. You'll notice him when you enter the office complex and look to the office on the right. He is rude, surly, and doesn't address you directly (not even a friendly "hi"). Rather, he will yell for his assistant manager -- letting her know that someone needs help. Then he continues to whatever he seems to always do on his computer.

My main "beef" with the manager was during the walk-out inspection. I spent several hours (literally) preparing the apartment so that I can receive the entirety of my security deposit. I left the apartment in better condition that I had moved-in with. When I first moved in, the refrigerator had mold along its corners, the oven had remnants of a mysterous substance, and toliet seat was peeling (the latter of which I did not bother to repair during my tenure at this complex). However, I addressed the refrigerator and oven issues.

Nonetheless, on move-out -- the Manager does not seem to awknowledge this. Nor does the duo-management team awknowledge that the carpet was spotless (granted, the carpet was newly replaced when I first moved in). The result: I was charged about $150.00 (forgot exact amount) for carpet cleaning (deducted from security deposit).

Oh yes, and the manager, made sure to make me aware that I would be "charged" if I left five bars of soap in the spotless shower (and it wasn't spotless when I first moved-in, sir). I was also made to clear the dryer's lint. Then, I was asked if I had cleaning supplies to clean a brown stain on the inside [top cover] of the washer (it was there when I first moved in, but I didn't say anything). Nonetheless, I didn't want to clean off that brown stain that I had tried to remove upon first moving in.

Imagine how much they would have deducted from the security deposit had I left a couple bars of soap in the bathtub and lint in the dryer! I likely would have had all my security deposit taken from me!

I am a reasonable guy with a lot of patience and who gets along with people. But this is one apartment I do not recommend! Trust me.

I urge you to look for somewhere else to live (and will urge all my friends of this). And with the high monthly prices at Glassford Hill Apartments, you can likely rent a house for the same $860 figure.

And another note: They seem to have ceased regular maintenance of the grass, shrubbery, and surrounding grounds. When I first moved in, this was not an issue. However, for $860 a month (not including electric, gas, and/or cable), I would expect a nicely kept lawn.
