It's all right

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2003

I moved in, in the summer of 2003, so I haven't had much experience with Acacia Creek. I had the opportunity to examine the apartment before I moved in and I didn't notice all the stains on the carpet and the kind of normal wear and tear you'd expect. I moved into a 'pet-approved' apartment and then had my pet put to sleep before I moved in. So every time the carpet crunches under my foot, I know that is where the previous owner's dog peed. Even though management told me that the electricity had been turned off, it had not, so we never had to suffer unpacking without refrigeration. My parking is perfect. My covered parking is directly in front of my door and it has three unreserved spaces immediately next to it. And since you only get one reserved parking space with each apartment, whoever gets home first parks in one of the unreserved spaces and the last one home parks in the reserved space. I'm near the rear gate, so I don't have to drive over the six traffic bumps to get to the exit onto Goldust. The first few nights, the entry gate stood open on Goldust Road and when I told management, they said I was the only one to report it. I believe them as it was fixed the next day. It's pretty sad when out of hundreds of resident's I'm the only one who reports something like that. I've never heard any noise from the people on the ground level next to us. Occasionally, I hear the occupant of the apartment above us walking around, but that's to be expected. This isn't a Manhattan condo. I had a problem with the microwave, refrigerator and hot water right off. They were attended to within one or two days. I think the hot water thermal unit is getting ready to fail, but I can't expect them to fix it before it does. Every window has plastic mini-blinds which do a very poor job of blocking the Arizona sunshine, so I'm hanging curtains in front of every window, behind the blinds. The built in washer and dryer, with the Hotpoint name, while not accessory-loaded are sufficient. The apartment layout is pretty darn good. Someone spent a lot of time thinking things out. There is a lot more usable space in my 980 square foot apartment than one would imagine. The bowling aisle sized handicapped bathroom, most likely mandated by Bush Administration #1, eats into a lot of space the 98% who are not handicapped, would appreciate. My biggest concern is the class of individual's they lease to and the number of people they allow to live in the different sizes of apartments. Their standard allows four or five unrelated individuals to pool their income and live in one apartment. In a college town, this would be expected, but in Scottsdale, it is what individuals who are here illegally from other countries do. And very often, these same people, deal drugs, steal cars, perpetrate brake-ins, drive so drunk they actually pass out behind the wheel, rape, child molest, murder, etc. (If you doubt me just look in the Arizona Republic's "Top Ten" wanted criminals postings) In short, many of these illegal or undocumented aliens are people I don't care to live in close proximity to. The management claims they do a "criminal check" on all resident's, but if someone is here illegally and is an undocumented alien, naturally they will not have a criminal record. Their crimes would be "undocumented". My wife, being a university trained human resources executive, has told me it is fairly easy for an employer (or an apartment management company) to discover whether the individual they are investigating is here illegally or not. I believe Equity's lax stance on illegal aliens (who are criminals by the fact that they are even in the United States) could at some future date come back to haunt them when the lawyer's of resident's who are harmed by criminality engendered by (easily confirmed) illegal aliens allowed to rent in their properties, sue for damages. Myself, having been empaneled on a federal grand jury for 18 months am well aware of the massive amount of felony crime committed by illegal/undocumented aliens. I am having a professionally monitored and installed burglar alarm placed in my apartment and am keeping certain tools of defense near my side.
