Here's the deal with Alexan straight up:

PROS:
-Apartments are great. They're town homes, look good, and are spacious.
-Grounds are kept up well.
-Staff is VERY friendly. Never had a problem with any of them and they are always willing to help. They always have smiles on their faces and bend over backwards for you if you are nice to them.
-Common area is great. Clean, nice pool, nice grills. Decent 24/7 workout room. Little office area with free fax machine & internet.
-Maintenance is VERY FAST. They also have 24/7 maintenance line so you can call as soon as something breaks and at least get the work order in right away. They've responded to our requests (even burnt out light bulbs) within 24 hours.
-Close to EVERYTHING. Shops, hospitals, doctors' offices, restaurants, you name it, it's within 5 miles.

CONS:
-Neighbors are ANNOYING. They're loud at night so when it's actually cool in AZ you can't keep your windows open b/c at 3am they'll come home with music blaring. Or they'll smoke so your house gets infected with cigarette smell.
-Nearby airport. You constantly hear planes from Scottsdale Airpark but that's going to be almost any complex in the area.
-DOGS. These people let their dogs poo everywhere and bark all the time, at least in our part of the complex.
-Utilities are a little high. We end up paying an extra $50/mo on top of our base rent and that excludes electric. While you get the convenience of having your own garbage can instead of walking to a dumpster, you pay for it.
-Police are here frequently. Since Sept 08, we've seen the police here no less than 5 times (& that's just in our part of the complex). Supposedly, however, the police visits were related to isolated incidents.
-Satellite/Internet. They only contract with Qwest (whose prices are outrageous) so if you want Cox or another provider, you're out of luck.

So there's Alexan in a nutshell. We still live here so despite the cons and we just renewed our lease. We like the high quality of the service and the complex itself. Overall, I'd recommend the place. Just don't think it's going to be perfect because of the outward appearance.

I don't know if we just live on opposite sides of the complex (I go in thru the right of the gate and live kind of in the middle with a one bedroom).. or I just don't see some things, but I havent seen any cops (I just moved in here in Aug.) and I dont find dog poo anywhere I usually walk. I will say I do have one loud neighbor with a dog we call yappy dog. I have a dog too but hes quiet.. and I clean up after him. I agree with your comment about the airport and the occasional loud neighbor, and utilities, but I paid more at Broadstone Desert Horizon (which was a slum compared to here).. This is a good review, I'll have to keep my eye out more..

Hmmm...interesting. I go through the right gate & live right next to the office (literally) in a 1br. I wonder if we hear the same yappy dog? There's these people across the way that leave their sliding door open when they leave & the dog barks forEVER. Thanks for cleaning up after your dog! I wish more pet owners were just as considerate. =) As far as police, they haven't really been around since this summer (which is good news). And it's good to know that utilities are more expensive other places. We've only lived in two complexes since moving here so it's good to get more input.
