Both Good and Bad

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006

I have lived in Glen Eagles for the last year, and the community definitely has its pros and cons.

-The location, close to the 101 and all the restaurants in North Scottsdale is very nice. However the airport IS right next store and residents do occasionally here the private planes flying overhead. Personally, I donāt think the noise is very bad- and the planes never fly late at night or early morning. It could be worse!

- Glen Eagles does have pretty great apartment plans, but the prices have increased dramatically in the last year to the point where I donāt think itās really worth it for what you get. When we started renting our small 750 sf. one bedroom apartment the cost was $750 a month. After one year, the price for our apartment has increased to $950 a month and I know that the larger townhouse style apartments with garages are well over $1300 a month, not including utilities.

-The grounds are starting to look their age, and the landscapers donāt seem to do anything besides cut the grass. The pool is ALWAYS dirty, with leaves, dead bugs and dirt floating around. I have never seen any of the maintenance people clean it. The public grills are also FILTHY, with chunks of rotting meat and flyās buzzing all around. Because Glen Eagles has trees there are a lot of birds, and you canāt walk through the complex without having to step over ---- encrusted sidewalks. The sidewalks are not power washed, and the bird ---- just accumulates. Also there are clouds of knats in the common areas that breed in the grass because they over water with the sprinklers and leave it swampy.

- There are also a TON of small, yappy dogs in the complex, and they howl and bark and poop all over the grass on a daily basis. I like dogs, but I have a hard time understanding why you would chose a small dog that barks all the time if you live in an apartment complex.

-The quality of the construction is very poor. I can hear it when my downstairs neighbor has loud sex (ewww), or the neighbor above me walks around his apartment at 1 AM. In the year that we were in our apartment we had the following problems- Our air conditioner broke last summer and it took three days to fix it, the dryer broke, the air conditioner constantly drips water onto the bathroom floor, the kitchen floorās cheap linoleum has peeled up all around the edges, the microwave broke and the bathroom fan broke. The maintenance staff did complete each repair within a few days of when we called the front office

- The maintenance guys are nice, but some of them have a habit of knocking on the door once and then opening it about a second later. I have been unpleasantly surprised before without proper clothing on, and Iām starting to think they do it on purpose when they know a cute girl is living in an apartment. Also, to get any of the repairs done you have to give maintenance permission to enter and it can be a little creepy to think that there is a stranger at home alone in your house. Some of the maintenance guys wear big dirty boots, and they donāt take them off when they tromp around the house. I came home once to find dirty footprints leading from the laundry room to the bedroom- now why would he need to go into my bedroom'!!! Yuck!

- Bugs. Glen Eagles does not have a big bug problem compared to some other apartment complexes in this area. I never had any problems with scorpions, and in the year that we lived here we saw about three cockroaches. We did have one horrible morning where we woke up with hundreds of ants in our bed, biting us. We caulked up the cracks in the walls and called the front office. A few days later pest control came and sprayed and we havenāt had a problem since. If you are proactive and caulk up cracks yourself and call pest control to spray the kitchen and any problems areas every few months I doubt you will have any problems.

-I wouldnāt recommend this complex to families with children. There are almost no sidewalks or areas for kids to play, and the cars drive around the complex fast. If your child was in the street he/she would get hit. The grassy areas look nice from a distance, but look closer to spot the dog ---- and bird ---- and you probably wonāt want your children to play there.

-This is a very safe complex. We have two cars (no garage) and we never had a problem with a break in to either our cars or home. I also feel quite safe walking around the complex, even at night. In the evening I see families, couples and dog walkers strolling around the neighborhood, with no āsuspiciousā people lurking about.

-There are some people who have loud parties at night. We had neighbors for a while that had loud parties until 4AM on Friday and Saturday night. It really depends upon your neighbors are. Because the walls are thin enough that you will hear them, it can become a real problem if your neighbors are inconsiderate.

The fitness center is a joke. The one elliptical machine needs to be repaired and it feels jerky when you are using it. The fitness centerās door is often propped open and with no A/C, so the room is too hot to work out in. The weight machines are ancient, and the stair master squeaks very loudly when being used.

Anyway, I hope this was helpful! Glen Eagles is not a terrible place to live- itās safe, nice location, minimal bugs and most of the people that live here are very nice. But the complex is cheaply built and very overpriced. With the hike in rental rates I am going to be moving on to a (hopefully) nicer complex at the end of my lease.
