I have been a resident at this community since June 2006, and am constantly frustrated after dealing with the management. Having a background in property management, I am appalled that the community manager behaves in the manner that she does, along with most of the other office staff.
The day that I moved in, there was NO explanation of my lease and all the rules and regulations. I was told to â?sign where highlightedâ. I never got a receipt for my money order and they put my money and confidential information on a desk where anyone could see/take my information.
As soon as I walked in to my suite, I was DISGUSTED with the manner in which my suite was supposedly â?cleanedâ. The carpets were soaking wet and still smelled like dog and cat urine. The linoleum floors hadnât even been mopped, much less cleaned, and the dishwasher was not cleaned as well. If I wasnât moving here from another state and if I had a different place to go, I would have NEVER moved in.
I went to management within the first 24 hours with my disappointment about the condition of my suite and they said that it would be handled. However, I never saw the leasing consultant fill out a work order, and it obviously never got taken care of. There are numerous large stains in the carpet which I had noted, which also still have not been taken care of.
The first time I paid rent, I went to the office with yet another work order, with only one of the items ever taken care of. My dryer had broke within the first week of being here, and the ceiling fan and light fixture in the living room does not work. I did get the new dryer, but no one has ever even looked at the ceiling fan/light. However, maintenance was great at getting me a new dryer in a very timely fashion.
I am also very upset at the fact that rent is so strictly due on the first of the month, but the office holds my check and it isnât cashed until at least the 15th of the month, sometimes as late as the 17th. To me, this is unacceptable in the fact that I was charged outrageous late fees due to being two days late my second month in paying rent. I was charged these fees because no one was in the office each time I went over to drop off my check. I went over on three different occasions within two days and they were always out of the office at various times during the business day. Is it so hard to put a courtesy drop box for us working residents?
Within the last few weeks, there have been numerous problems with dogs off their leashes roaming around the complex. As an animal owner, I believe this is unacceptable, especially when my dog is getting growled at/approached while outside with me on a leash. There has been three occasions in which I see owners chasing their dogs across the common areas and pouncing on my dog, who is somewhat restricted in defending himself because he is on a leash. All the owners do is collect their dog and say a ridiculous apology, and STILL do not put them on a leash. Just the other night, there was a stray dog roaming the complex with no owner in sight. It bewilders me that these dog owners let their dogs bark constantly and roam freely around the complex, and management does nothing.
The final straw came when I needed to use the clubhouse business facilities (ie the fax machine, computer). My computer was being worked on, so I needed to rely on the business center for my work. Day One: the internet connection and fax machine were down, so I left a message with the office. Day Two: I called again and spoke with a leasing consultant who not so politely told me that this â?wasnât a priorityâ and that they would get to it â?wheneverâ they werenât busy. Day Three: I went over to the office. Julie let me use the fax machine in the office, after discovering that the clubhouse computer/fax machine still wasnât working. Day Four: The manager told me â?oh wellâ. So, I asked her if she could mapquest me the directions that I needed for work purposes. She said â?absolutely notâ and that it was against policy. Excuse me, but if the community business center hasnât been working for four days, I think that the least she could have done was take two minutes out of her day and mapquest those directions for me. One of the reasons I chose this community was because I was assured that there was a business center available for my use. I believe it would have been a courtesy for her to help me out.
The whole point of this is that I pay an outrageous amount of money for my one bedroom suite, and I expect to be treated with much more respect. After all, it is promoted as a â?luxury communityâ and supposedly not just anyone can live here. I should have pulled my application after it took the manager almost four days to â?have timeâ to run my application. I make more than enough money to live at this community easily, but I expect a certain treatment and lifestyle in return.
In conclusion, hopefully things will change at this community in the near future. I am appalled at this â?luxuryâ complex and how management handles situations. I am a resident paying way too much in rent and not getting anything in return. I regret moving to this complex and will hopefully be moving out soon.
